NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Warren to place the following ordinance on first reading, was adopted: <br /> <br />'~N ORDINANCE TO ANEND THE CODE OF TBE CITY OF PORTS~KNUTIt, 1951, BY ADDING THERETO A <br />NEW SECTION KNOWN~S SECTION 30-132.2, NAKING ESSEX STREET A ONE WAY STREET" <br /> <br /> The City Attorney pmesented the following resolution: <br /> <br />"Be it Resolved by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the <br />attorneys for the City of Portsmouth be, and.they are, hereby authorized to <br />note an appeal Do the Circuit Court of Appeals in the cases of <br /> <br />James C. Bell, Administrator of the Estate of Jarvis Belly deceased, vs. In AdmiralTy No. 7580 <br /> <br /> Ferryboat '~reat Bridgeg' in rem; City of Portsmouth, Virgimia, a municipal <br /> corporation, in personam; Launch "Pocahontas", in rem, and Thomas F. <br /> Little, owner of launch "~Pocahontas', in personam,2 Respondents <br />Russell Glb$on,Sr.,Adminstrator of Estate of Rnssell Gibson,Jr. v.same defendants -In Admiralty/ <br /> from the judgments rendered by the District ~ourt of the United States for the No.754 <br /> stern District of Virginia in the'above cases, and that the proper officers <br /> the City of Portsmouth De and they are hereby authorized to execute in the <br /> name of the City appeal and supersedeas bonds in such amounts as may be required <br /> by the court." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Hawks, said resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />The following letter from the Port s~mouth Central Labor Union was read: <br /> <br />"I am directed To forward to you the following resolution for your consideration. <br /> This resolution was unanimously adopted at our last regular meeting June 5, 1953. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION <br /> <br />Whereas, the downtown redevelopment plan, as proposed by the Portsmouth <br />Redevelopment and HeusingAuthority, has been considered by the Portsmouth <br />Central Labor Union, and <br />Whereas, the over-all plan of slum clearance of the Redevelopment Authority <br />will provide over 1,000 new units for families displaced, and <br />Whereas, the plan, as proposed, will accomplish many much needed improvements <br />in the City of Portsmouth, and <br />Whereas, this plan would be beneficial to the members of organized labor; <br />Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved by the Portsmouth Cc,entral L~bor Union to <br />endorse the downtown redevelopment plan, and urge theCouncil of the City <br />of Portsmouth to pass upon said plan." <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned, <br /> <br />~pproved - <br /> <br /> President. <br /> <br /> <br />
