Howard that the City Collector be authorized to relieve taxes,wms adopted. <br /> <br /> Bill of Jordan E. T~zr~er in the amount of S14.00 for a ram killed by stray dogs. was <br />presented. <br /> <br /> Motion of ~Ir. Howard that the City Treasurer he authorized to pay same from funds in her <br />hands from collection of Dog Taxes, was adopted. <br /> <br />S$ip Builders and Helpers <br /> From Lodge 178 - <br /> <br /> The following letters from Lodge 178, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron <br /> and the Fifth Naval District M~etat Trades Council were read: <br /> <br />'~hereas, the downtown as proposed by the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />Authority has been considered by Local No. 178 International Brotherhood of <br />Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmith, Forgers and Helpers, and <br />~hereas, the overall plan of the slum clearance projectsof the Redevelopment <br />Authority will remove many of the shacks thai predominate our city, and <br />Whereas, the Authority proposes to provide 1,000 new units for displaced <br />families, and <br /> Whereas, this plan will be beneficial to the members of organized labor. <br /> Therefore, Be it Resolved that we, the officers and members of Local No. <br />178 International Brotherhood of Boilermakers endorse this program and urge <br />the City Council to vote for and proceed with the down~own Redevelopment <br />program." <br /> <br />From 5th Naval District- '~At the last regular meeting of this Council the following resolution <br /> was unanimously adopted: <br /> <br />"Whereas, the dowuzown development plan, as proposed by the Portsmouth <br />Redevelopment and Housing Authority, has been considered by the Fifth <br />Naval District Metal Trades Council, and <br />Whereas, the overall plan of slum clearance of the Redevelopment A~thority <br />will provide over 1,000 new units for families_~isplaced, and <br /> ~rhereas, the plan, as proposed, will accomplish many much needed improve - <br /> ments- -in the City of Portssmouth, and <br /> Whereas, this plan would be beneficial to the members of organized labor; <br /> no~, therefore be it <br /> Resolved: By the Fifth Naval District Metal Trades Council to endorse the <br /> downtown redevelopment plan, and urge the Council of the City of Po~tssmou~h <br /> to pass upon said plan" <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br /> Motion of ~r. Smith that a letter of commendation be written to the Portsmouth Power <br />Boat Club with special mention To T.J. Follary, Chairman, for the splendid Regatta held in Portsmouth on June 14th,~ <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
