Vass. to sign the agreement attached hereto; <br />RESOLVED. further that this resolution be spread on the minutes of this <br />meet ing." ' <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Wilson that the resolution be adopted and that the City Marker be authorized <br />to sign.same, was adopted <br /> <br /> 7th - "I submit herewith a revocable permit covering the installation of a traffic control <br />street light at the i~tersection of Route I41 at Gate No.18 at the Naval Shipyard and recommend that the City <br />Manager be authorized and directed to execute the same for and on behalf of the City of Portsmouth and that th~ity <br />Clerk be authorized and directed to attest the same and affix the City Seal thereto." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Lawrence that the proper official be authorized to sign same ~s adopted. <br /> <br /> 8th - "I submit the attached notice of application for an increase in the rates charged by <br />the Virginia Electric ~ Power Company. This is for your consideration." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Howard that the City M~nager contact the League of Virginia Municipalities ~in - <br />quiring if a concerted effort will be made by the cities of Virginia to oppose the increase in rates proposed by the <br />Virginia Electric & Power Company, and ~o report back at the next regular meetin~.0~the Conncil, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 9th - "I submit the attached letter from the Portsmouth Retail Merchants Association request- <br />ing permission to install pre-Christmas and New Year holiday decorative lighting on certain city streets and request. <br />ing the City to assume the expense of electric energy used during the period of the lights being up which is f~m <br />November 27th to January 2. 1954. <br /> <br /> -The Association is to furnish the City an ~nsurance policy covering property damage <br />and bodily injury insurance in favor of the City. I reco~end that their request be granted and that the City as- <br />sume the payment of the electric energy." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~r. Lawrence ~o concur in the recommendation of the City Manager, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 10th - "I submit the attached letter from Stephen A. Sullivan, President of the Catholic <br />Club of Portsmouth, and recommend that the contents of the letter be spread upon the minutes of the Council in <br />order that a permanent record may be made of an agreement the City has with the Catholic Club concernin~ a permit <br />to use a small portion of the club's property lying between their souRhern boundary line (of their building) and <br />the property of the City" <br /> <br /> <br />
