<br />At a negular meeting of the City Council, held on December 22nd, 1953, there were present

<br />Fred A Duke, Frank N. Bilisoly,Jr., George L. Grimes, Carl C. Houghton,Jr.,
<br />James N. Howard, E. W. Lawrence, R. Irvine Smith, E. R. Sturtevant, C.E. Warren,
<br />Pearle J..Wilson, I.G. Vass, City Manager, and R. C. Barclay, City Attorney.

<br />Minutes of regular meeting of December 8th, 1953 were read and approved.
<br />
<br />The following notices of zoning changes were read:
<br />
<br /> "P~rsuant to the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, notice is hereby given that a public
<br />hearing will be hetd at 7:30 P.M., on Tuesday, December 22, 1953, in the Council Chamber, Municipal Building,
<br />Portsmouth, Virginia, for the purpose of altering zones and re-classifying the following property:
<br /> 1. Mary E. Flick to rezone a triangular plot of land beginning at the northwest
<br /> corner of Pearl. Street and George Washington Highway, freeing 150 feet on the
<br /> north side of George Washington Highway, then northwest 105 feet to an alley,
<br /> then 137.72 feet east to the point of beginning lots numbered 354-355 and
<br /> 336, from Two Family, Class "C" to Commercial Class ~".

<br /> 5. Clara S. Hunter to rezone lots #9 thru ~24 Block #113 Westhaven, beginning at
<br /> the southeast corner of Airline Boulevard-.and Brighton Street, fronting 280 feet
<br /> on tho east side of Airline Boulevard, then 240 feet on the north side of Renry
<br /> Street, then 217 feet north to Brighton Street, then 60 feet on the south side
<br /> of Brighton Street to the point of beginning, from Two Family Class "C" ~o Com-

<br />"At the meeting of the Planning and.Zoning Commission held December 3, 1953,
<br />the following applications were considered and the subsequent recommendations
<br />respectfully submitted:
<br />1. The application of Mary E. Flick to rezone a triangular plot of land be-

<br />fronting 150 feet on the north side of George Washington Righway, then north-
<br />west 105 feet to an alley, then 137.72 feet east to the point of beginning, lots
<br />numbered 354-355-336, from Two Family, Class "C" to Commercial, Class '~" be
<br />approved.
<br />2. T.B. Lee, Inc., to rezone 401 Pearl Street, lots 36-37-38 and.39, beginning

<br />south side of Queen Street and fronting 155 feet on the east side of Pearl Street

<br />Motion of Mr. Grimes ~o approve Item #1 was adopted,
<br />
<br />Motion of Mr. Wilson to approve Item #2 was adopted.
<br />
<br />Motion of Mr. Warren to approve Item #3 was adopted.
<br />
<br />Motion of Mr. Lawrence to approve Item #4 was adopted.

<br />Motion of Mr. Houghton that action on Item #5 be deferred until next Council meeting, was

<br />Notion of Mr. Howard to remove from the table the question of leasing the AlmsHouse pro-

<br /> Motion of Mr. Howard to suspend the rules to hear from anyone interested in talking on the
<br />above matter, was adopted.
