Barclay, City Attorney. <br /> <br />Minutes of regular meeting held on June 8th, 1954 were read and approved. <br /> <br />The following Notice was read~. <br /> <br />"The Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, <br />June 22nd, 1954, a~ seven thirty P.M. in the Council Chamber. W. <br />The following reports from he City Manager were read: <br /> <br />Carlisle. <br /> <br /> 54-165. "I submit the attached letter from Dr. L H Denny, Chairman of the Retirement Board, and <br />recommend that the Council concur in the recommendation of the Retiremen-t Board." <br /> <br />Attached - <br /> <br />'~s requested by the City Council in a letter dated June llth, 1954, Captain Bashford's request <br />for retiremen~ has been considered by the Retirement Board. Capt. Bashford h~s served the City <br />of Portsmouth for 37 years and is 63 years of age. The City Physician, Dr. Frank Lindsay,Jr., <br />and Dr. Eugene Lowenberg concur in the diagnosis of coronary arteriosclerosis, peripheral <br />arteriosclerosis and chronic asthmatic bronchitis. They recommend that this man be retired <br />from duty with the lmortsmouth Fire Department because of his physical condition. <br /> Considering Capt. Bashford's physical condition, his age a~d length of service, it is the <br /> unanimous opinion of this Board that he be retired." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Wilson that Captain B ashford be retired effective July 1st, 1954, on a pen- <br />sion of $167.50 was adopted. <br /> <br /> 54-166. "I submit the attached resolution relative to condemnation of properties for rights of ways <br />for the construction of the H~milton Ave. by-pass and recommend its adoption." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr.~oughton, the following resolution was adopted: <br /> <br /> <br />
