<br /> At a Regular Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, May 8, 2001,
<br />there were present:
<br />
<br />Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts,
<br />P. Ward Robinett, Jr., J. Thomas Benn III, William E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst,
<br />Sr., City Manager Daniel M. Stuck, City Attorney Timothy Oksman.
<br />
<br /> Councilman Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr. opened the meeting with prayer, which
<br />was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
<br />
<br />Mayor Holley called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance.
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to approve the minutes
<br />of a Called Meeting on April 24, 2001, a Regular Meeting on April 24, 2001, and a
<br />Called Meeting on May 1, 2001, and was adopted by unanimous vote.

<br />01 - 147 - Presentation:

<br />Presentation of special lapel pins to newly appointed Boards and Commissions
<br />members.
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to consider agenda
<br />items 01-149 and 01-134 prior to the public hearing on the operating budget, and was
<br />adopted by unanimous vote.

<br /> Motion by Mr. Benn, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to concur with the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission that UP-01-02 be denied on first and final
<br />reading, and was adopted by the following vote:

<br />(b) UP-01-09
<br />
<br />CRADOCK NEIGHBORHOOD - Victoria W. Connelly requests a
<br />use permit to operate a 50-seat restaurant at 53 Afton Parkway.
<br />The site is zoned Historic Limited Business (HLB). The
<br />Comprehensive Plan recommends commercial development of the
<br />site.
