Holley Ill, Vice Mayor Johnny M, Clemons, Bernard D. <br />Griffin, Sr., James T. Martin, Cameron C, Pitts, P. Ward Robinett, Jr., J. Thomas <br />Berm III, Ronald W. Massie, City Manager, G. Timothy Oksman, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Councilman Berm opened the meeting with prayer which was followed by the <br />Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />SPECIAL SELECTIONS - Band of the Hampshire Constabulary (Portsmouth, <br />England) <br /> <br />Mayor Holley called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to approve the minutes of a <br />Called Meeting on May 13, 1997; a Regular Meeting on May 13, 1997; and was <br />adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />97-156 - A resolution honoring the service of The Honorable William S. Moore, Jr. <br />on the occasion of his appointment to Portsmouth Juvenile and Domestic Relations <br />District Court. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr: Pitts, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "RESOLUTION HONORING THE SERVICE OF THE HONORABLE WILLIAM <br />S. MOORE, JR. ON THE OCCASION OF HIS APPOINTMENT TO PORTSMOUTH <br />JUVENILE AND DOMESTIC RELATIONS DISTRICT COURT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, William S. Moore, Jr., was raised in Portsmouth and graduated <br />from Churchland High School; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Old <br />Dominion University, where he was Class President, was selected for Who's Who in <br />American Colleges and Universities, and later received his law degree from Wake <br />Forest University; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he has faithfully served his community over a period of many <br />years through membership in Churchland Baptist Church, of which he was a Trustee, <br />the Portsmouth Host Lions Club, of which he was elected President, and Minor, Little <br />and Pony League Baseball; of which he was a coach; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he has further served his community as Chairman of the Jail <br />Advisory Board, member of the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Foundation Board, member of <br />the BB & T Board of Directors and as a prosecutor and Senior Assistant <br />Commonwealth's Attorney; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1983, <br />and he has brought continuing credit to Portsmouth and to the Commonwealth <br />through his distinguished service over a fourteen-year period; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, his most recent committee assignments in the House were the <br />Courts of Justice, General Laws, Transportation, and Chesapeake and its Tributaries <br />Committees; and was the first Portsmouth representative on the State Crime <br />Commission; and <br /> <br /> <br />
