<br />from High to County Street, and County Street one way £r~m Water to Crawford Street, in connection with the Elizaa
<br />beth River tunnel buses.
<br /> Since this Route has been abandoned fer use by the tunnel buses, I recommend that the
<br />street be retur~e~ to its original twe-way usage."

<br /> Molten of Mr. Sturtevann to concur in the recommendation of the City l~anager,was adopted.

<br /> 55-277 - "I submit the attached contract between the City of Portsmouth, Virginia and Samuel J.
<br />Russo and others for the rental of the b~ilding occupied by th~ Ciiy Collector. The contract is for one year
<br />subject to automatic renewal provided neither party cancels the contract within 90 days prior to the expiration
<br />of the 12 month contract."

<br />Motion qf M~r. Sturtewant that the proper city officials be authorized t~ sign the con-

<br /> 55-278 - "The question of 'No Parking' on Brighton Street, between P~lman aud tLali£ax, was refer-
<br />red to me at a previous meeting of the Council. I recommend that the request of the ~roD~_r~y ~owners in this
<br />block be concurred in and that 'Ne Parking' signs be erected,u

<br />Motion of Mr. Baker to concur in the recon~endation of the City Nanager was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 55-279 - "I submit the attached letter from Mrs. Fanny R. Lee, Superintendent o£ the Social Ser-
<br />vice Bumeau o~ Portsmouth, and recommend that the Cauacil concur in Mrs. Lee's recommendation concerning the set-
<br />tlement of the claim.
<br />
<br /> Attached - Property in which our deceased client had one £i£th interest was disposed of by
<br />Special Commissioners and approved by Judge I'Anson. The property sold £or $2,200.00. Expenses o£ settling the
<br />estate amounted to $585.72, which le£t a balance o£ $1,614.28 to he divided into five parts m~ $322.85 each.
<br />Judge I'Anson allowed $200.00 to the £unerul home for burial end $50.00 to Kings Daughters Hospital to cover the
<br />client's last illness. This leaves $72.85 which has been sent to us as a recovery from our client's estate.
<br /> Will you please request action by our City Council authorizing us ~o accept this
<br />$?2.85 as s~tlement of our claim £or $284.00 covering Old Age Assistance advanced to this client? We are not re-
<br />quired to have State approval since the estate amom~ted to less than $500. We shall appreciate a written notice o~

<br />Motion of M~r. Wilson that ~he refund be granted, was adopted.

<br /> 55-281 - "Superintendent of Public Schools, A.J. Napp, Sr.,has requested that I in£orm the Council
<br />that the dedication date ef W~w Wilson High School had been s~ for Tuesday, November 22nd, 1955, and it was
<br />not discovered that this dat~ .con£1ictedwith the regular Council meeting date until after the invitations had
<br />been prepared and sent out. He requested that in order for the members of the Cen~cil ~d other city o£ficials
<br />to he able to attend the~dedicanion of the High School, that the reg~larmeeting date o~ November 22nd,1955 be
<br />changed. I would recommend that Council mee~ a~ 4:30 P.M., on Tuesday, November 22, 1955, to consider any busi-
<br />ness that may come before Council at that time and that the mee~ be adjourned in time to participate in the
<br />dedication ceremony."

<br />Motion o£ Mr. Lawrence ~o concur in the recomm~e~dation of the City~anager,was adopted~

<br /> 55-28~ - "I recommend that a suitable date be arranged for a discussion with the Senator and
<br />members of the House QT Delegates w]x~will represent the City of Portsmouth at the next General Assembly to dis-
<br />cuss questions o£ local legislation that the City Council may desire to have enacted as well as legislation of a
<br />general nature."

<br /> 55-284 - "I am reporting that I employed Jmck B. Wilkinson to appraise the Preedy Farm, consist-
<br />ing of 31.01 acres of land and ten buildings, situated in the Deep Creek Magisterial District of Norfolk County.
<br />I recommend that the land be purchased by the City for use for cemetery, park, and
<br />any other purposes for which the City Council may determine, and that an appropriation f~r said purpose be made."
<br />
<br />Motion of ~r. Howard to refer back re the Cemetery Committee, was adopted.
