56-17 - The following letter from the Suuerintendent of Schools was road: <br /> <br /> "The School Board at its meeting on Friday, January 6, 1956, instructed me to re- <br />quest the~City to'purchase, ~for use as part of the Truxton~School site, all those lots frontEng on Nanley St. be- <br />tween 'G' and Lee Sts., as~shown on Plate~lS1 of the Portsmouth land books; The total assessed value of these <br />lots is $2,800." <br /> <br />Notion of ~lr. Bilisoly to lay on the table until the next regular meeting~ was <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br /> 56-18 - The following letters from the Commissioner of Revenue were read: <br /> <br /> "Please be advised that Joseph Grant was assessed for tangible personal property <br />valued at $420.00 with taxes amOUnting to $tl.55. The assessment in question pertains to an automobile. Our in - <br />vestigation shows that car was not owned by him on January~l~ 1955. The taxpayer has paid the above tax as shown <br />by his receipted tax bill #24092 and as this is definitely an erroneous assessment, we sincerely request that a <br />refund in the amount of $11.55 be made to the 'ta~rpayer." <br /> <br /> Please be advised that Irving Nachman has been assessed for tangible personal <br />property valued at $1,860.00 with taxes amounting to $51.15~ Our investigation reveals that the correct assess- <br />ment shouldhave been $100.00 with t~uxes amounting to $2.75, representing an over-assessment in taxes amounting tot <br />$48.40. Mr. Nachman has paid the original tax bill #11226. As this is definitely an over-payment of $48.40, we <br />sincerely request that a refund in the~amount of $48.4Q~be made to Mr. Nachman.TM <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hawks that the re2unds be granted, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 56-19 - - ~ation of Nr. Baker t~ go Ento an election of a School Board member to fill the un- <br />expired term of W. Nash Stublen, was adopted. <br /> <br />Baker nominated Binford M. Hutchins. <br /> <br />Motion of ~r. Bilisoly that nominations be closed was adopted. <br /> <br />Vote being taken, Mr. Hub'chins was unanimously elected. <br /> <br /> 56-20 - Notion af ~ir. Baker that the City Charter be amended to allow the Civil and Police <br />Justice to issue bench~warrants and any other chan~es that might be necessary due to legislation passed in the <br />General Assembly, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 56-21 - ~otion of ~/r.
