Smith that Mr. Cherry's resignation~ be accepted, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion. of Mr. Smith to go into the election of a Justice of the Peace for Marshall Ward, to <br />fill the unexpired term of Mr. Cherry, was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Smith nominated J.S. Pitchford. <br /> <br />Motion o~ ~lr. Bilisoly that the nominations be closed, was adopted. <br />Vote being taken, Mr. Pitchford was unanimously, elected. <br /> <br />56-150 - The following bill for chickens and rabbits killed by stray dogs, was presented: <br />"Bill of W.H. King,^2S21 North St., in the amount of $6.48 for £onr hens and one rabbit," <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Wilson that the City Treasurer be;authorized to pay said bill from funds in <br />her hands from collection of Dog Taxes, was adopted. <br /> <br />56-151 - The following letter ~rom the Planning Commission was read: <br /> <br /> "It is requested that a refund to Aaron E. Erown,.ll00 W. Gosporz Road, in the amount of <br />$15.00, be approved. This amount was paid to.the City Collector by Mr. Brown on April 9, 1956, as a fee for an <br />appli6ation to rezone property at the above address. Subsequently, it was determined that minor improvements <br />being made To the applicant's store could be-dSne witho~ t~e necessity of rezoning. The applicant thereupon <br />withdrew his application." <br /> <br /> Motio~ 6f Nr. Grimes that the refund be granted, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The following letters from the Commissioner o£ Revenue were read: <br /> <br /> 56-152 - "Please be advised.that Joku R. Gilliam has been assessed for tangible personal <br /> with taxes amounting to $25.03. Our investigation reveals that the correct assess - <br />p~operty <br /> valued <br /> at :$910.00 <br />ment should have been $210.00 with taxes amounting to $5.?8, representing an over-a~sessment in taxes amounting <br />$19.25. The taxpayer has paid the.original tax of $25.03:plus penalties and interest o£ $1.75 as evidenced by <br />his receipted tax bill #20301. As this is de£initely an overpayment of $19.25, we sincerely trust that a re£und <br />in the amount of $19.25 plus penalties and interest paid on that amount be made ~o the taxpayer." <br /> <br /> "Please be advised that.William L. Turner has been assessed for tangible personal <br />property valued at $2,120.00 with taxes amounting to $56.30. Odr~investigation reveals that the correct assess- <br />ment should have been $780.00 with taxes amounting ~o $21.45, representing an over-assessment in taxes amounting <br />~o $36.85. The taxpayer has paid the original tax of $58.30 plus penalties and interest of $4.09 as evidenced <br />by his receipted tax bill #15536. As this is definitely an overpayment~of $36.85, we sincerely request ~hat a <br />refund.in the amount of $36.85 plus penalties and interest paid on it~be' made to the ~axpayer." <br /> <br />Motion of ~r.
