June 26th, 1956.

NEW BUSINESS

The following letter from the plam~ning Director was read:

56-195 - "The Plarn~ing Commission hereby recommends that the following amendment be made to
the Zoning Ordinance. Under Article IX, Sectio~ 32-3~6 , Used Car Lots are listGd as prohibited in G Commercial
Districts.
The Planning Commission reconnnends that Used Car Lots be removed from this list
in order that they will be permitted in G Commercial Districts. Under the present Zoning requirements, used
car lots are unreasonably restricted because they would only be allowed in the H Central Business District and
in Industrial Districts~"

Motion of Mr. Howard ~o refer to the City Attorney was~dopted.

56-196 - The following letter from the Planning Director was read:
"This refers to a letter from J L Jolliff to you dated June 7, 1956, in regard ~o
the sale. by the City of lots ~5, 66, 67, 68, 70, 79 and 80 on the west side of Lee Avenue, north of the Atlantic
Coast Line Tracks,
My recommendation is that the City hold on to these lots until the location of a
second tunnel and approach roads are determined. The subject lots are quite close to one of the proposed highways
It is possible that they might be involved in]the .right-of-way for this highway. In any event, I believe that
the potention use for this land is industrial rather than residential. It is probable that the decision on the
tunnel will be made within the next two months."
Motion of Mr. Hawks to concur~in the recommendation of the Planning Director, was
adopted.

56-197 - The following letter from the Commissioner of Revenue was read:
"Please be advised that Linwood C. Bailey was doubl~ assessed for tangible personal
property valued a~ $200..00 with taxes amounting to $5.50 plus penalties and interest of $.45 making a total
~mounz of $5.95. The taxpayer has paid the above tax as shown by his receipted tax, bill #17486 and as this is
definitely an erroneous assessment, we sincerely request that a refund in the mnount of $5.59~=~be made to the
taxpayer. Please mail refund to 729 Effingham St." ~f~·

Motion of ~r. Hawks that the refund be granted, was adopted.

56-198 - Bill of ~irs. H.T.
