<br /> 56--275 -- "i recommend that the City permit the use of the City Stadium and Buck
<br />Child's Field for the purpose of a Rodeo S~ow to be given during the Jamestown 350th Anniversary Celebration."
<br /> Motion of Mr. Scott to concur in the recommendatio~ of the C~ty Manager and that the
<br />matter be referred to the City Attorney for the preparation of proper legislation to permit the use of the sta-
<br />dium for this purpose on this occasion, was adopted.

<br /> 5B-27~ - "I snbmit the requesZ for an appropriation of a share of the cost of Inter-
<br />national Naval Review a copy of wb3_ch has been presented each member of Council by the Committee and reco~maUd
<br />that an appropriation in the sum of ~18..800.00 be placed on its first reading, subject to the approval of the
<br />City Attorney."

<br /> Motion of Mr. }Iinton to place an appropriation of $18,800.00 for said purpose on
<br />first reading, was adopted.

<br /> 56-277 -- "I ~hmit the attached ordinance providing for the closing of a portion of
<br />Her~ry Street, and recommend that it be placed on first reading."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman to place ~2ae following ordinance on first reading was adopted:

<br />Motion of Mr. Scott that a conference be held a~ 4:15 on October 10th,1956, was adopte(

<br /> 56--281 - "D~e to the resiguatio~ of J. Aubrey Houghton ~o accept a position as, City
<br />Manager cuf£South Boston, Va., there is a vacancy in the office of Administrative Aasistant.
<br /> Ih ave received letters from Councilmen B.W. Baker~uad H. Earl W~j_seman
<br />requesting ~hat I ~o~ fill the vacancy until the new Council took office.~I have re~pected their wishes 'Du~ feel
<br />it is essential ~o the best interest of the City that I fill the facancy as soon as possible~ in fact the ques-
<br />tion of annexation and ~any other u2rgent problems are coming up for consideration, making the need more acute.
<br />For this reasmn I am of the opinion that the vacancy should be filled as soon as possibleo'~
