.,t &7 <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Approval of an ordinance to prohibit trucks on London Street from Effingham <br /> Street to Crawford Street. <br /> <br />· Approval of an ordinance to prohibit trucks on High Street from Effingham Street <br /> to Virginia Avenue. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />To provide better traffic conditions for residents on London Street from Effing ham <br />Street to Crawford Street, the Department of Traffic Engineering is restricting this <br />section of roadway to trucks. Trucks should not be using this section of London <br />Street as a through-way, as an alternate route to Crawford Street can be used. <br /> <br />To provide better traffic conditions for businesses on High Street from Effingham <br />Street to Virginia Avenue, and to eliminate traffic congestion and back-up at High <br />and Effingham Streets, the Department of Traffic Engineering is restricting this <br />section of roadway to trucks. Trucks traveling in this corridor are going between <br />the Downtown Tunnel and the Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT), an alternate <br />route to the PMT for trucks can be used. <br /> <br />· This has been through the Vision 2005 Committee and has received its <br /> endorsement. This will help with the heaw traffic on the London Street corridor. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The only cost associated with prohibiting trucks on these streets would be <br /> signage. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Berm. and seconded by Mr. Clemons, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, ane was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 22-329 OF THE <br />CITY CODE TO PROHIBIT TRUCKS ON PORTIONS OF LONDON BOULEVARD <br />FROM EFFINGHAM STREET TO CRAWFORD PARKWAY AND ON HIGH STREET <br />FROM EFFINGHAM STREET TO VIRGINIA AVENUE TO PROVIDE BETTER <br />TRAFFIC CONDITIONS FOR RESIDENTS ON LONDON BOULEVARD AND <br />BUSINESSES ON HIGH STREET." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />97-225- <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance amending Ordinance 1997-31 pertaining to <br />the Classification and Pay Plan. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance amending Ordinance 1997-31, pertaining to the <br /> Classification and Pay Plan. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· City Council has appointed a new City Clerk, which will require revising Section 8 <br /> of the Classification and Pay Plan pertaining to the annual salary of the City Clerk. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The revised salary of the City Clerk will be $45.000. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH CLASSIFICATION <br />AND PAY PLAN WITH RESPECT TO THE ANNUAL SALARY RATE FOR THE CITY <br />CLERK." <br /> <br /> <br />
