20 <br /> <br />57-209 - "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR T~E BUDGET RECEIPTS AND EXPENSES FOR THE CITY <br /> OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, FOR THE YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1st, 1957" <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Baker to suspend the rules to hear from interested persons, was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Emery and Mr. Katz spoke in reference to taxes. <br /> <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Baker to table the ordinance until Saturday at 10:00 A~M., was lost, and <br /> <br /> Ayes: Baker, Weisema~ <br /> Nays: Bartlett, Hinton, Kirby, Scott, S~kith <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Kirby, said ordinance was adopted'and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Bartlett, Hinton, Kirby,Scott, Smith <br />Nays: Baker, Weisemano <br /> <br />57-209 - <br /> <br />The following ordinancD, placed on first reading ar. meeting of June llth,was <br /> <br />taken UP and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AU~ENDAND RE-ORDAIN SECTION 24-36 OF TPLE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH~ VIRGINIA, 1951, RELATING TO SERVICE CHARGES AND NETER RATES" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Smith, said ordinance was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Bartlett, Hinton: Kirby, Scott, Smith <br />Nays;. Baker, Weiseman <br /> <br />taken up and read: <br /> <br />57-209 - Th~ following ordinance, placed on first reading at me~eting of June llth,was <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO ~MERDAND RE-ORDAIN SECTION 24-7 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH, 1951, RELATINQ TO CHARGES FOR SE~YER CONNECTIONS'.' <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Minton, said ordinance was'adopted, and by the f611owing vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Bartlett, Hinton, Kirby, Scott, Smith <br />Nays: Baker, Weiseman <br /> <br />57-228 - The following letter from the Commissioner of Revenue was read: <br /> <br /> "Please be advised that Edward K~mp Bedwell, Sr. was assessed in 1956 for Tangible per- <br />sonal property valued au $540.00 with taxes amounting To $14.85.. The assessment in question pertains to an automo- <br />bile. Our i~estigation shows that the taxpayer was not in the City of Portsmouth on January l, 1956. <br /> The taxpayer has paid the above Eax plus penalties and interest as sho%~n by his receipt <br />ed bill #26752.
