July 9th, 1957. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith that taxes, licenses and rents owed by the Internstional Naval Review <br />to the City of Portsmouth be relieved, was lost, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Bartlett, Hinton, Smith <br />Nays:- Baker, Kirby, Scotb, Weiseman <br /> <br /> 57-240 - "I recommend that tee remaining sum ia the amount of $100,000.00 be appropriated <br />for the purpose of completing the purchase of Off-Street Parking lots and the development of same. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman to place an .appropriafio~ of S1G0,000.O0 for said purpose, on first <br />reading, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 57-241 - "I have received the approved budget estimates-from the Department of Public Wel- <br />fare for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1958 and the State approved figures are slightly different from those ii <br />the City budget, . As this is definitely an erroneous assessment, we sinceroly teques~ that a refund in <br />the' amount of $6.28 be made to the ta payer. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Scott that refund be granted, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 57-244 - Motion of Mr. Weiseman that the damping of trash and garbage <br />in the T~uxton area be s~opped as s~on as possible, was adopted. <br /> <br />on the land used <br /> <br /> 5~-245 - Motion of ~r. Smith that the City Manager be instructed to inv~stigate the pos- <br />sibility of using city prisoners in the..clea~ing of vacant lots, was a~opted. <br /> <br /> 57-246 - Motion of Mr. Kirby to refer to t~e City M~ua~er for ~nvestlgatlon, traffic <br />condition at the intersection of King St. and Elm Ave., was adopted. <br /> <br /> 57-247 - Motion of Mr. Minton that the City Manager be instructed to determine if the <br />barges adjacent to the West Norfolk bridg~ are located in the City of Portsmouth and if taxes are being paid on <br />land, also £o advise the Army engineers of the debris that is floating into the r~er, and to advise the State <br />Highway Department in regard ~o the danger to ~he West Norfolk bridge and report ba~k to the City Council by <br />the meeting of August 13th., 1957, was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br /> President. <br /> <br /> <br />
