Tonkin, Treasurer of the Armed Forces Committee

"On July 12th, 1957, the Armed Forces Committee_ paid, Seventy-Five Dollars rental for
Portsmouth Stadium. The large flood lights were turned on at 8:10 P.M., and on account o{ small attendance,
we had them turned off at 8:30 P.M. and stadium closed.
As we only had use of stadium for a short time, we feel that Council should authorize
refund of the Seventy Five Dollars."

Motion o£ Mr. Hinton To refer ~o the City Manager, was adopted.

57-262 - The following letter from the Robert E Lee Parent Teachers Assocation was
read:
"I have been ~nstructed to write to you concerning the parking and traffic situation
around the Robert E Lee School in Prentis Par~. We would like to have t~e "No Parking' signs in front of the
school placed on the north side o£ Duke Street i~stead of on the south side, where they now are. The reason for
this is that when ca~ are /parked on the north side? children run out between the parked cars to cross the
street and we feel if the parking is moved to the south side of the street it would be much safer.

There is also a terrible traffic prob~m on . rainy days when parents come to the school
in cars to pick up their children. If Camden Avenue (between Duke and Race Streets) could be made a one way
street and Atlanta Avenue (between Duke and Race Streets) be made a one-wayand Atlanta Avenue (between Duke and
Race Streets) be made a one way stree~ in the opposite direction from Camden Avenue, it would help the situation
a great deal, we believe. We hope you will consider these suggestions and will give them your immediate attention
Thank you for your co-operation.

Sincerely yours,
Mrs. H.F. Trammell, Secretary."

Motion o£ Mr. Kirby to refer to the City Manager was adopted.

57-263 - The following letter fro~ the Co~nnissione'r of Revenue w?s read:

"Please be advised that George Homes wa,s doublF assessed for ~angible personal property
in 1951 valued a~ $100.00 with taxes amounting to $2.50.
