Smith.to lay on the table until next me, ting, for further study, was adopte¢ <br /> <br />and read: <br /> <br />57-447 - The following ordinance, placed on first read i~ at last meeting, was taken up <br /> <br />'~AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, 1951, BY <br />ADDING THERETO A NEW SECT ION TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION 8-91, RELATING <br />TO SALES ADVERTISED AS BANKRUPTCY, CLOSING OUT OR FIRE SALES" <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. H{n~on to lay on the table until next meeting for further study,was adopted. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />58-23 <br /> <br />The following letter from the Parent-TeaChers Association of Thomas Jefferson <br /> <br />School, was read: <br /> <br /> "On behalf o~ the students of Th0~&~ Jefferson School, we as parents and teachers wish <br />ro extend our dee~ appreciation to the City Council for placing 8 police ~/ard at the corner of Madison and <br />Seventh Sts. <br /> We w~sh to extend thanks to Mr. B.W. Baker wh~ '~a~ instrumental in making this possible.' <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 58-24 - The following letter from the American Federation of Government Employees was <br />read: <br /> "At-the last meeting of A.F.G E. Lodge No. 22, the members voted in favor of writing a <br />letter to you concerning an increase in pay for the firemen a~d policemen in ~our City. It is requested that <br />you support the pay raise for both the firemen and policemen; We hGtieve-they do a good job and they deserve an <br />increase in pay." <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 58-2~ = The following letter from the Congregational Church of God was read: <br /> <br /> "In November, ~956, the Congregation of the Church of God, 3516 Lincoln Street, did <br />purchase the dwelling?ouse at 3522 Lincoln St.., which ~s now used as the parsonage. <br /> There was a delay in getting all the pepers signed and same were not recirded until <br />January, 1957, although the pastor had been living in the parsonage and the church was making the payments on <br />same before that time, as our records show. <br /> It has been brought to our attention that we have pa~d taxes on the 3522 Lincoln St. <br />address for the year 1957, due to the error o~ not having it recorded before January. Please advise if there is <br />any possible way this may be refunded to our church treasury, and if the taxes will no longer be charged to this <br />properzy. Thanking you we are - (signed) Rev. S.I. Parsons, Pastor m~d L.
