Lyons were presented. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hinton ~o lay on the table, was adopted. <br /> <br />lfEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br />presented: <br /> <br />58-251 - The following resolution from the Norfolk County Board of Supervisors was <br /> <br />"VIRGINIA: The Regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Norfolk County was <br />held in the Supervisors' Room, at the Clerk's Office, Tuesday, July 8, 1958, ar <br />10:00 A.M., and the following Resolution was adopted: <br /> <br />On motion made by Mr. Haywood, seconded by Mr. Wadsworth, the Board directed that <br />the Portsmouth City Council be requested to place a master meter at Hedges Perry f/~ <br />for the purpose of running a~ wa~er line to Dock Landing School. <br /> <br /> All voting 'Yes' <br />c/c Portsmouth City Council, Haywood. <br /> <br />A Copy% Teste: Mador M. Hillard, Clerk. <br /> By Irene Shacketford, D.C." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Kirby to refer to the City Manager for report and recommendation was adopted. <br /> <br />58-252 - The following letter from the Planning Commission was read: <br /> <br /> "A petition dated April 2~, 1958, requesting the closing of a portion of the old County <br />Road, signed by A. Dowry and John M. Corn, was submitted to City Council and subsequently referred ~o the Plan- <br />ning Commission. By action taken at a meeting on July 22, 1958, the Planning Commission recommends to City <br />Council that the petitioners be advised to work out with their nezghbors the matter of moving the buildings <br />which are presently located in the right-of-way of the alley which runs north and south, looking toward the <br />opening of the alley through ~o Commerce St.; that if the foregoing can be successfully negotiated that portion <br />of County Road would no longer be needed for access, and t~at the Planning Commission would then favorably con <br />sider recommending the closing of this portion of County Road." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hinron that it be received as information, was adopted. <br /> <br />58-253 - The following l~tter from the Planning Commission was read: <br /> <br /> "A request for closing a portion of Ann Streez at the Park View Elementary School was refE <br />red to the Planning Commission by City Council. Action was taken by the Planning Commission at a meeting on <br />July 22, 1958, and recommendation zs made to City Council that that portion of Ann St. commencing 105 feet wes~ <br />of Owen St. and extending west to the Oak Grove Cemetery be closed." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Kirby To approve the recommendation of the Planning Commission and that the <br />following ordinance be placed on first reading, was adopted: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE A PORTION OF AArN STREET" <br /> <br /> 58-254 - Motion of Mr. Baker that the Chief of Police be instructed ~o investigate the <br />whereabouts of the portraits of former Mayors which hung in the Municipal Cour~ Room on Water and County Streets <br />was adopted. <br /> <br /> 58-255 - The Mayor requested that it be announced that he had <br />as a member of the Planning Commission for a four year term begi~ing June 1st, 1958. <br /> <br /> On motion adjourned. ~ ~ <br /> Ci~ Clerk. <br /> <br />ppointed Mr. George Parke~ <br /> <br />Pre siden t. <br /> <br /> <br />
