<br /> 58-264 - The following letter from the Chamber of Commerce, Frank Mantz, Managing
<br />Director, was read:
<br /> "The matter of toll-free calls of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company from
<br />Virginia Beach to Portsmouth was discussed az a meeting of our Hoard of Directors on August 18, and it was the
<br />unanimous opinion that this matter be referred to the City Council of Portsmouth, Va."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman that this matter be referred to the City Manager and City
<br />Attorney for study and recommendation as to what can be done in further protest to the proposed action which ap-
<br />pears to be unfair to the interests of Portsmouth, was adopted.

<br /> 58-265 - The following copy of a letter from Delegate Inez D. Baker to Judge Ralph H.
<br />Catterall, Chairman, State Corporation Commission, P~chmond, Va., was read:
<br />
<br /> "On August 14, 1958, a notice was posted at the Pennsylvania Railroad Freight office
<br />in Portsmouth stating that as of September 2, 1958, the Portsmouth office would be closed and services would be
<br />conducted from the St. Julien Avenue Station in Norfolk. Until today, after I personally notified the press,
<br />there had been no publicity about the proposed closure of the office; therefore, many merchants who use the facil
<br />ity were unaware of the plan.
