Au~ast 26th7 1958. <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City council, held~on August 26th, 1958, there were present: <br /> <br />A.C. Bartlett, W.E. Hinton, Frank L. Kirby, John E. Scott, R. Irvine Smith, <br />H. E~ Weiseman, A.P. Johnson,Jr., acting City Manager, and J.S.Livesay,City Attorney. <br /> <br />The meeting was opened with prayer by W.E. Hinton. <br /> <br />The following report from the Cemetery Trustees. was presented by A.C.Bartlett, Chairman: <br /> <br />58-218 -"The Cemetery Trustees recommend to the Council that the City accept title to the <br /> Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, subject to the conditions and procedures reoom - <br /> mended as follows: <br /> (1) The books of the corporation and the trustees should be inspected by the <br /> City Auditor. <br /> (2) The form of ownership certificate issued by the corporation should be made <br /> available ;o the City Attorney for study; and <br /> (3) The plot of the cemetery should be made available to the City Attorney for <br /> study in connection with deed description, etc. <br /> (4) Attorney for Trustees and the City Attorney should prepare a draft of deed <br /> containing description and conditions acceptable to all parties; <br /> (5) City Council should resolve to accept conveyance of the cemetery by deed <br /> in conformity wit~ the draft mentioned in paragraph (1) above, when such <br /> conveyance has~been approved~by cour~ decree; <br /> (6) The trustees and the City should bring declaratory judgment proceedings <br /> against a receiver for the corporation, the grantees in the deeds of <br /> record, and ten of the holders of ownership certificates; and <br /> (7) After the conveyance is made, City Council should amend the Code as neces- <br /> sary to include the new cemetery in the system now owned by the City." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Weiseman that this be admitted to the agenda was adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman that the Council accept title To the Evergreen Memorial Park Ceme- <br />zery, subject to the recommendation of the Cemetery Trustees, and that the City Atorney be instructed to carry <br /> Out~ ~hesefprovisions, was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Weiseman, the rules were suspended ~o hear from interested persons. <br /> <br />Mr. M.Katz spoke in regard to the matter. <br /> <br />The £ollowing reports from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 58-257 - "It is in order at this time ~o hear from representatives of the Portsmouth <br />I~dustrial Foundation." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr.Weiseman, the rules were suspended to hear from interested persons. <br /> <br />Tommie Bie presented the budget of the Portsmouth Industrial Commission: <br /> <br />"Advertising in Wall Street Journal Eastern edition - <br /> 52 insertions of 56 line advertisements, one each week <br /> through entire year @ $1.74 per agate line <br /> <br />Wall Street Journal "Extended Advertising" service - <br />reprints of advertisements in an attractive color folder <br />for direct mail. 3,000 copies produced by WSJ <br /> <br />Covers for "Reports on local manufacturing enterprises" <br />(already printed) and other material. Also to be used <br />as covers for next folder described <br /> <br />$5,066.88 <br /> <br />133.00 <br /> <br />250.00 <br /> <br />Series of Seven Information Folders covering Labor,Govern- <br />ment, Living, Utilities) Market, etc. Similar to Charlotte, <br />N.C. folders attached 3,150.00 <br /> <br />Revised and Improved Edition of Portsmouth Industrial. <br />Foundation Folder attached. Bringing information up to <br />date and gi~ing more detailed data <br /> <br />450.00 <br /> <br />Rental of Booth Space and expenses incidental to exhibit <br />a; National Industrial Development Exposition <br /> <br />Total Expenditures <br /> <br />700.00 <br /> <br />9,749.88." <br /> <br />tries into the City. <br /> <br />Leon Lasting spoke regarding the necessity of making an effort to bring additional indus- <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Kirby, the budget of the Portsmouth Industrial Foundation was adopted. <br /> <br /> 58-258 - "The request of the Norfolk County Board of Supervisors for a master meter to <br />be placed at the Hodges Ferry Bridge for the purpose of furnishing water north of the bridge, has been studied. <br /> The acting City Manager does no5 recommend the installation of this me~er <br />since we do not have the size and type of main which may be used to serve the proposed area. <br /> The acting City Manager does recommend that this mat~er be given further con - <br />sideration if a definite proposal is made by the Board of SHpervisors of Norfolk County." <br /> <br /> <br />
