OctOber 14, ;1997 22t <br /> "ORDINANCE TO AMEND CH~TER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY ADDING THERETO A NEW ARTICLE XXVII <br />TO ESTABLISH A CLEAN COMMUNITY COMMISSION." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Pitts, Martin, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />87 - 277 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing a contract for the acquisition of <br /> Portsmouth General Hospital. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br /> · Adoption of a resolution authorizing the purchase of Portsmouth General HosR <br /> from its owner, Maryview HosPital. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The City has an opportunity to acquire and control this important property ~a1: <br /> affects both doWntOwn and the northside neighborhoodS. <br /> <br />· The proposed purchase is for 8.04 acres on, or before, November 30, 1997 to <br /> include two (2) residential units on Leckie Street. <br /> <br />· Maryview will lease Portsmouth General Hospital. from the City for up to twelve <br /> (12) months at fair market value. <br /> <br />· At the end of the lease, Maryview will, at its "sole cost and expense," clear the <br /> site. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The purchase price Will be the appraised value of the land only. The fair value <br /> the land is estimated to be about $400,000. <br /> <br />· Revenue from the lease is projected to offset a portion of the purchase price. <br /> <br /> 1. Emil Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, spoke on ownerShip of hospital <br /> bY the City, and expressed concern for phasing out of the hospital <br /> relating to needS in the area. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, t° adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adOpted by the fOllowing vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, HOlley <br />Nays: Clemons <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT FOR THE ACQUISITION <br />OF PORTSMOUTH GENERAL HOSPITAL." <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />the City Manager, acting for and on behalf of the City, is aUthorized to enter <br />into a contract for the acquisition of Portsmouth General Hospital consistent <br />with the attached letter of intent." <br /> <br />Ayes: Berm, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
