Baker, A.C. Bartlett, W..R. B~eedlove., R.B. Seward~ R. Irvine Smith, <br /> George R. Walker, H. E. Weiseman, A~P. Johnson,.Jr., City Manager, and <br /> J. S. Livesay, Jr., City Attorney~ <br /> <br />The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. ~etsemaa. <br /> <br />The following call for the meeting was rea~: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a called meeting of the City Council, in the Council Chamber, <br />7:30 P.M., on Thursday, May 28th, 1959, to consider 'the following: : <br /> <br /> 1. Public hearing on budget guide. <br /> 2. License tax on laundromats. <br /> 3. Resolution relative to merger of the Norfolk & Western and Virginian Railroads <br /> and ~y other matters that may properly come before the Council. <br />By Order of the ' " <br /> Preszdent. <br /> <br /> 59-148 -- The Mayor~stated that the privilege of the floor was gra~ted to any who <br />wished to speak in regard to the budget guide. <br /> <br />The following spoke: <br /> <br />Joseph Donlnn <br />Louis H. Keller. <br /> <br /> 59-149 - Motion of Mr. Bartlett to place on first reading the following amendmen~ <br />to the License Tax Ordinance, regarding coin-in-slot washing machines and dryers, was adopted, without dis - <br />senting vote; ~ <br /> <br /> . ~9-i~ Regarding the resolution relative to the merger of the Norfolk aud Western <br />and Virginian R~ilroads, presented by ~he Mayor at the last meeting~ motion of Mr. Bartlett that the Council <br />instruct ~he City Attorney to file necessary forms with the Interstate Commerce'Commission, which would place <br />Ms_in posit~on to be allowed later to be intervenors in this matter, and that the Council be advised of any <br />nqtice o£ hearings or meetings, was adopted~ withou~ dissenting~vote. <br /> <br />.On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br />*AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER II, SECTION 26, AND CHAPTER III, SECTION 2 OF THE <br />LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, ADOPTED FEBRUARY 15, 1955, AS <br />AMENDED, SO-AS TO ~CLASSIFY UNATTENDED COIN-IN-SL4)TWASHING ~i~CHINES AND DRYERS AS <br />SLOT MACHINES AND PROVIDE A SPECIFIC LICENSE TAX TH~P[EON OF TEN DOLLARS PER MACHINE" <br /> <br /> <br />
