,T~ne q~h. <br /> <br /> 59-165 The following request from the Commissioner of Revenue for refuald of personal <br />property taxes was read: <br /> <br /> "Please be. advised that. Ton~ Balknight has been assessed for tangible personal propertyt <br />valued at $290.00 with taxes araou~ting to $7.98. The assessment in question pertains ~o an auto which our i~ - <br />vestigation reveals that the taxpayer did not purchase until July 7, 1958, and therefore, would not be liable <br />for ~axes on it for the year 195g~ <br /> The taxpayer has paid the original tax notice plus penalty and interest of $.64 as <br />evidenced by his receipted tax bill 26748. As.this is definitely an error~eous assessment, we sincerely request <br />that a refund in the amount of $8.6Z be made ~o the taxpayer." <br /> <br /> On motion of ~r. Weiseman, said refund was approved on first reading, without dissenting <br />vote. <br /> <br /> 59-166 -- "Please be advised that Geo. R. Fields, Sr. has been asseJsed for tangible <br />personal property valued for $300,00 with taxes ~mounting to $8.25. Our investigation reveals that the correct <br />assessment should have been $250.00 with .taxes amounting to $6.88, representin~ an over-assessmen~ in taxes <br />amounting to $1.37. The taxpayer has paid the original t.ax notice as evidenced by~ the inclosed receipt. 19570. <br />As this isgdefinitety an overpayment of $1.37, we sincerely request that a refund in t/~is amount be made to the <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Breedlove to place said reTund on first reading, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 59-167 - The following letter from Diane Andrews, 7-B Government Class of Harry A Hu~t <br />Jr. High School, was read: <br /> <br /> "Our claes would like to express o~r.. sincere thanks for allowing us to attend a City <br />Council meeting on the 26th of May. A better understanding of local government was accomplished at that time. <br />We apprecinted your welcome and invitations to return again. Please extend o~r gratitude 5o the gentlemen of <br />the Cou/~cilL" <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br /> .59-168 = The following invitation was read: <br /> <br /> "the officers and staff of the Naval Reserve Officers School 5-1 extend to you and your <br />staff a most cordial invitation to attend exercises marking the end of the fifth class. The exercises will be <br />held at the U.S. Naval Reserve Training Center, St. Helena Annex, Norfolk, Va., on the 18 June 1959 commencing a~ <br />8:00 P.M. Following the brief ceremonies there will be a social hour.
