A survey reveals a sharp decline in volume in the city s~orns on the products covered <br />by the new extension, and that purchases of these items are being made outside the City, from establishments <br />tha~ pay no city license. <br /> 2. Our merchants, realize that when their cusEomers go outside of the City to make these <br />purchases, there is a tendency ~o purchase their other ueeds at the same time, and that gradually a pattern <br />will develop that will deprive the merchants of our City of much additiona/ business. <br /> 3. The resistance on the parr of the public to this zax is resulting in a loss of business <br />sufficien~ to offset the advantage to be gained by the revenue frbm this source. <br /> We realize revenue must be raised for the operation of our City, and it is not our intention <br />to oppose any efforts to obtain the needed funds; however we sincerely feel that in this instance, the loss <br /> <br /> <br />
