<br />5. The City will pay to the Society the fee of $2.50 for each dog impounded by

<br />6. The Society will be responsible for the feeding and care of all dogs impounded
<br /> in the shelter by the City Game Warden.
<br />7. The Society will provide the G~me Warden assistance when requested in picking
<br /> up dogs lwhich are difficull to handle.

<br /> "Through the able assistance of Senator William B. Spong, Jr., the Portsmouth
<br />Historical Association' has obtained t~ State historical markers Which have recently been erected by the State.
<br />One, ~ecording the history of the City of Portsmouth, stands on Route Y7 near the Churchland bridge; another,
<br />reciting [the significance of the Elizabeth River, stands at the north end of Court St., overlooking the river.
<br /> At 4:00 P.M., on Sunday, the 27th ~f September, a brief ceremony commemorating
<br />the erect. Jori'of thes~ markers will be held at the north end of Court St., under the auspices of the Portsmouth
<br />Historic~ Association. Senator Spomg has been requested to make remarks appropriate to delivery of the markers
<br />from the State, and it is desired that the Mayor accept them on behalf of the City Government.
<br /> The Honorable Mayor and City Council are invited and requested 5o be present,
<br />together with such other officials and their guests as may wish re attend. The Right gev. ~illiam A. Brown, a

<br />the establiskment of tlle City of Portsmouth and ~the e~plo~a~ion of
<br />the Elizabeth River, and
<br /> WHEREAS, nhe aforesaid historical markers have been ~rected and the
<br />Portamout~' H~storicaI A~sbciatlon has invited this Council ~o attend a
<br />ceremonial dedication thereof on September 27th, 1959', under the auspices
<br />of the Historical Association, and
<br /> WHEREAS, the Council considers that the securing of these historical
<br />markers will be beneficial to the City and to which its citizens may
