November 13, 2001 <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DEDICATE TO THE <br />SCHOOL BOARD OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH THE PROPERTY KNOWN AS <br />FIRE STATION #6 AND THOSE PROPERTIES BEING ACQUIRED BY THE CITY <br />FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW BRIGHTON SCHOOL FOR SCHOOL <br />PURPOSES. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the <br />City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to execute such documents as may be <br />necessary and appropriate to dedicate the use of Fire Station #6 and those properties <br />acquired by the City pursuant to Resolution R-01-64 of the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, adopted on September 25, 2001 for school purposes for so long <br />as they are needed to the School Board of the City of Portsmouth." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />01 - 315 - Adoption of a resolution expressing appreciation to the employees of the City <br />for dedicated and loyal service during 2001 and to award them additional holidays. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution authorizing a holiday all day on Monday, December 24, <br />2001, (rather than the previously approved one-half day), and Monday, December 31, <br />2001, for employees of all departments and agencies of the City. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· To acknowledge the contributions of City employees and to thank them for dedicated <br />and loyal service during the 2001 calendar year. <br /> <br />· To recognize City staff at this special time of the year and to wish each one a happy <br />and safe holiday season. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· Associated overtime costs can be accommodated in the previously approved <br />budget. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO THE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY <br />FOR DEDICATED AND LOYAL SERVICE DURING 2001 AND TO AWARD THEM <br />ADDITIONAL HOLIDAYS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended and City Council desires to <br />acknowledge the contributions to the citizens of Portsmouth by City of Portsmouth <br />employees during 2001; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council desires to recognize the City staff at this special <br />time of the year and to wish each one a happy and safe holiday season; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council, that all employees <br />of the City of Portsmouth be, and they are hereby, duly commended, for dedicated and <br />loyal service during the 2001 calendar year. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all day, Monday, December 24, 2001 (rather <br />than the previously approved one-half day), and Monday, December 31, 2001, be and <br />they are hereby, granted as additional holidays for all departments and agencies of the <br />City of Portsmouth." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />01 -31 <br />Roads <br />Roads <br /> <br />6 - Adoption of a resolution to support and endorse the efforts of the Hampton <br />Partnership to attract a National Basketball Association team to the Hampton <br />region as adopted in the Partnership's strategic plan in 1999. <br /> <br /> <br />
