278 <br /> December 9_ 1997 <br /> <br /> At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, December 9, 1997, there were <br />present: <br /> <br /> Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemons, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., <br />Cameron C. Pitts, James T. Martin, P. Ward Robinett, Jr., J. Thomas Benn III, City Manager <br />Ronald W. Massie, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br />97- 319 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City Manager's <br />Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, City Hall, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December <br />1997, for the purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into an Executive Session. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />97 - 320 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br /> (1) Public Utilities Bond Authorization <br /> (2) Monuments and Memorials - Friendship Garden <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to go into Executive Session <br />pursuant to provisions of Section 2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia, to discuss or consider t <br />following: <br /> <br /> (1) Appointments by City Council to committees, boards, or commissions as <br /> permitted by Subsection (A)(1). <br /> <br /> (2) The condition, acquisition, or use of real property for a public purpose, or the <br /> disposition of publicly held property, including property in the downtown and <br /> southside areas, and also public recreational property, as permitted by <br /> Subsection (A)(3). <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Clemons, pursuant to Se~ion 2.1-344.1 <br />the Code of Virginia certifying that to the best of the Council Member's knowledge during <br />immediately preceding Executive Session of the City Council: <br /> <br />(1) Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requireme <br /> by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />(2) Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which ti <br /> Executive Session was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the <br /> meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Minutes prepared by: <br /> <br />Debbie K.
