60-216 - The following letter f~om t~e?0rtsmouth C%~ty~mployees LQcal Union #733

. "Referuece ~o our letter.'to the City MDnager requesting a pay increase for all cit~
empl~¥~es tha$ earn $~,000. per year and less,, which is~0~lieveda~e the only citY employees that are entitled to
~ pay. increase 'at..'this_ time. ~h_ y we say that is because the employees that earn more than $5.000. her ~vear are
getting a livi~ wage and the ethers ar~e NOT. As weunderstand it now a ~% increase is going tobe granted the
¢¢Dy~mployees - all city empIoyees, which we are opposed ~o, until the now existing differential in pay between
the top brass and the little man is brought closer together.

It will have to be agreed that if such a pay increase is granted the top brass
will ge~ the biggest part. of the money appropriated for an im¢rease and the little man nothing, which we do no~
think is to t~e.~bes~ interest to the City. We would like to recommend that a 10% increase be granted to all
city employees that earn $5,000. per year and less and the balance of tko appropriation beleft into ~he tunnel
fund, which would be a savings to the City. It is ~equested that a copy of this letter ~e'given the Councilmen
as soon as possible and that this letter be read at the next Coundil ~eeting fora matter of record.
