<br />The following reports from the City Manager were read:
<br />
<br /> 60~212- "I submit herewith an agreement between the State Highway Department and
<br />~he City of Portsmouth a~d recommend that the proper City officials be authorized to sign. This agreement is
<br />for the improvement of Elm Ave. between High and County Sts. and ~etween~efferson St. and Lindsay Ave. This
<br />is based on the contract prices as received by the State;
<br /> The total cost of the project is $260,668,00 and the City of Portsmouth's
<br />a~are of this will be $65,662.00."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman To concur in the reco~endation of theCity Manager and that
<br />the proper city officials be authorized to sign the agreement was adopted, without dissenting vote. f
<br />
<br /> 60-213- "I recommend that I beauthorized ~o receive sealed bids on the school
<br />buses obtained from Ndrfolk County as a result of annexation. I plan to advertise these buses for sale with
<br />bids to be, opened at 12 b'clock noon 'August 2nd, 1960; funds derived from the sate ef ~hese buses To be credited
<br />to the Capital Improvement Fund. The right to reject any and all bids will ~e reserved."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Breedlove to concur in the recommenda-tion of the City Manager was
<br />adopted, without dissenting vote.
<br />
<br /> 60-214 - "I recommend that an appropriation of $$32,631.00 be placed on first ~eading!
<br />from the Capital Improvement Fund. This appropriation is necessary-fer the addition To the I.C. Norcom High
<br />School. The Council apprbved the awarding of this contract to Conrad Brothers at' its organizational meeting
<br />of July 1st, ld60."
<br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager and that an
<br />appropriation of $332,631.00 be placed on first reading, was adopted, without dissenting vote.

<br /> 60-149 - The following ordinance was presented by the City Manager w~th the explana-
<br />tion that, Lu its present form, it replaces the ordinance with similar title adopted by the Council on June
<br />14th, 1960~ the only change being in line 4 of the second page where the age is changed from sixty five years
<br />to sixty years:

<br /> A SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM FOR CITY EMPLOYEES', ADOPTED AUGUST 25, 1953,
<br /> AS AMENDED,~ IN ORDER TO PROVIDE CONTINUED~MEMBERSHIP FOR LIMITED PURPOSES FOR
<br /> CERTAIN EMPLOYEES TRANSFERRED-TO, THE OFFICES OF THE COMMISSIONER OF TEE
<br /> REVENUE-AND THE C~TY TREASUEER~ AND FOR-E~PLOYEES OF THE~DEPART~ENT OF PUBLIC
<br /> HEALTH TRANSFERRED TO THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTmeNT"
