Lewis of 2419 Elm Ave. was read:

"At the initial phase of the curbing and guttering of Route 17, Elm Ave. from Jeffer-
son St. south to George Washington Highway, I wish to state that there are various aspects of the project which
appear ~highly inconsistent with h~way planning and city beautification.

I was told by tbeproject engineer at his trailer office on Elm Ave. that the side -
walks would extend ten feet from the curb necessitating the removal of some porches and porch steps of the home
along said rmOUte. It is true that it is the city's right of way, but I question the wisdom of removing the
greenery~along the right of way. Furthermore there would be no ~ree boxes or grass plots between the curb and
the sidewalk that is usually associated with civic beauty. The traffic island would Rot contain a grass plot,
very pathetic. And as far as traffic engineering is concerned, I can. not understand why that portion of Elm Ave.
Route 17 - from Jefferson St. to County would notbewidened thus creating a bottleneck in that portion thereof.

dissenting vote. Mot=on of Mr. Breedlove to refer to a conference of the Council, was adopted, without

On motion adjourned.

City Clerk.

Approved -

President.
