<br />60-239 - The following %etter from Irvin C. Blanchard was read:
<br />
<br /> "It is with sincere re~ret that I must resign from the Portsmouth City School Board,
<br />effective not late~ than September l, 1960. On the above date, Btanchard's Inc. will merg~operations.with the
<br />Rober~son Hardware Co. Inc., which from time to time suppl.ies cBrtain materials to the school board. Under these
<br />conditions, I do not feel it would be proper for me to continue to serve 'as a school board member.
<br /> I consider my electign to.the board an expre, ssion by the City Council of a confidence
<br />zn me for which I shall be forever grateful. I~ am sorry t~at circumstances have~ prevented me ~from fulfilling
<br />my obligation to serve out my term. Trusting you will take immediate s~teps to name my successor, I am, etc."

<br /> 60-240 - The following letter from ~he Actir~g Planning Director was read:

<br /> "It was the unanimous recommendation of the Planning Commission that the text of the
<br />zoning ordinance ~eadopted, and that the maps accompanying same shall be considered as having the Planning
<br />Commission's tentative approval, subject to revision as may be deemed desirable by the Planning 'Commission,
<br />should the Planning Commission be~equ~s~d .to conduct preliminary public hearings."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Breedlove to refer to the next conference of the Council, was adopted,
<br />without dissenting vote.

<br />60'-241 - The following communication from the Bank-of Cradock ~as read:

<br />well-established banking office on Alton ParkWay, Portsmouth, containing the most modern banking equipment.
<br />~ell-known~ and highly respected citizens of Norfolk County and Portsmouth are serving on the bank's Board, in -
<br />cluding the Hon. We To Leafy, a member of the Portsmouth City Co~cil~.
<br /> The Bank of Cradock and Norfolk County was established in 1955 and now has resources
<br />in excess of $5,000,000°00, as shown in the inclosed statement of condition at close of business on June 30, 196~.
<br />The bank is a depository for the United, States Govenment~ the State of Virginia and Norfolk County. It is a
<br />member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and is under experienced management.
