McLean <br /> <br />Vote being taken, the amended motion was adopted, and by the following ~ote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Atkiuson, Barnes, Dillon, Leafy, Walker <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br /> 62-14 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This <br />closes a portion of County Street between Frederick Boulevard and Airline Boulevard. This has been approved'by <br />the Planning Commission." <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE THAT PORTION OF COUNTY STREET LYING BETWEEN <br />THE EAST LINE OF FREDERICK BOULEVARD AND THE NORTHWEST LINE OF <br />AIRLINE BOULEVARD." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Dillon that the mamter be deferred until nexz meeting in order to permit inter- <br />ested persons to be heard. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to amend the motion to read that it be returned to the Planning Commission <br />with the request that the Con~ission reporz at the nexz regular meeting of Council, on February 13th, was adopted, <br />without dissenting vo~e. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br />read: <br /> <br />62-1 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up and <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE I~OSING AND COIJRCTING TA=XES ON REAL ESTATE, TA2¢GIBLE <br />PERSONAL PROPERTY AND MACHINERY WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE FOR <br />SUPPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY <br />INTEREST AND SINKING FUND ON THE PUBLIC DEBT FOR THE YEAR BEGINNING <br />JANUARY 1, 1962." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Barnes, the ordinance was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes, Dillon, Leafy <br />Nays: Walker. <br /> <br />read: <br /> <br />62-2 - The following ordinance approved on first reading at last meeting was taken up and <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING TAXES ON SHARES OF STOCK OF BANKS LOCATED IN <br />THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH FOR THE YEAR 1962 AND ANNUALLY THEREAFTER, <br />FIXING THE RATE AND REQUIRING TI~E PAYMENT THEREOF, REQUIRING CERTAIN <br />REPORTS, AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Dillon, the ordinance was adopted and by the following voge: <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes, Dillon, Leafy, Walker <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br />read: <br /> <br />62-4 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up and <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 24-55~ OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1951, AS AMENDED, TO PROVIDE FOR THE INSTALLA- <br />TION AND MAINTENANCE OF WATER SERVICE CONNECTIONS MADE TO WATER <br />MAINS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AFTER JULY 1, 1962." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Leafy 5o adopt the ordinance. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Walker co delay action for thirty days was lost, there being no second. <br /> <br />Vote being taken, the ordinance was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes, Dillon, Leafy, Walker <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> 62-15 - The following letter from Mr. Walker was read: <br /> <br /> "Please place on the agenda for the Council meeting of January 23, 1962~ the follow- <br />ing proposed ordinance.
