.Tune 26th. 1962, <br /> <br />mouth on the 12th day, of June, 1962, do certi~fy that the above is a true and correct Abstract of Votes cast at <br />said election, and do therefore determine and declare that GEORGE D. EASTES, C. S. 'SAM'ATKINSON, AND JOHN L. <br />'Nick' DILLON received the' highest number~ votes cast at said election for City Council. <br /> Given under our hands this 14th day o,f June, 1962. <br /> <br /> (Signed) Samuel G. Crowder - Commissioners of Election." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Knight, received as information. <br /> <br /> 62-152 - The following communication~ from Julia Cook was read: <br /> <br /> 'Would like some discussion and thought from Council for the better type of restaurant <br />that are losing too much revenue with no Sunday beer. or wine. We have to fight the. beaches during the summer <br />mont~s, the City of Norfolk and the County which although it takes the Sunday revenue, has no desire to be a <br />part of the city taxwise. Even iI it could be s01d with meals. I know it could not be church opposition for <br />the populace is larger in Norfolk~and the County than our city. ! know I for one can not afford to try to offer <br />the high types service and entertainment. I have been Offering without it. <br /> Would <br /> ~Ppreciate some consideration for the City would benefit from the revenue we <br />are forcing elsewhere. (Signed) 'Cellar Lounge - Julia Cook." <br /> <br />Avenue was adopted. <br /> <br />On mo tion of Mr. Foaight, referred to a conference of the Council. <br /> <br />62-153 - Motion of Mr. Barnes to suspend the rules to hear from residents of ~ilton <br /> <br /> Gilbert Christian and V H Lane spoke and presenter the following petition: <br /> <br /> "The property owners of the 500 block of Hamilton Ave. desire to file this petition <br />with the proper authorities of the City of Portsmouth, Va., and'urgently request that since all necessary equip- <br />ment is now on Woodrow St. adjacent to Hamilton Ave. for the pouring of curbings and since there is o~ty one blo, <br />left on Hamilton Ave. without curbings allowing all the water to drain down on our block and stand~ that the <br />City please authorize the proper parties to continue the curbings around the corner~of Woodrow St. and ~amilton <br />Ave. and dow~ the one remaining block of Hamilton Ave. We would like to point out that the new Port Norfolk <br />School is at the end of our block and.with water standing all the time it is quite enticing for the children to <br />tramp through the puddles on the way to school. We will appreciate you giving this petition the most serious <br />consideration. <br /> Signed Gilbert Christian and others. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to refer to the City Manager for a report at the next meeting of <br />the Council was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> Mr. Walker made a statement relative to the termination of his service as m member <br />of the City Council.
