Octobe~ 9th. 19R9 62-245 - The following communication from the Chamber of Commerce was resd: "At a joint meeting on October 1, 1962, between the Board of Directors and the Highway and Roads Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and City Officials, the proposed interchange a~ Effingham Street and Inters~a~e Highway 264 was thoroughly discussed. It was the opinion'of those presen~ tha~ the interchange, as proposed by the State, will be inadequane, will crea~e a serious ~raffic problem, and will seriously interfere with the proper development of Portsmouth. The Commanders of the Naval Shipyard, the Naval Hospital and Commander Fifth Naval District, are concerned that the State proposed interchange will erea~e serious ~raffic problems and have requested the Chief of Naval operations ~o intercede in suppor~ of s complete interchange as proposed by the City. In view of the foregoing, the following resolution was unanimously adopted. Resolved ths~ the Board of Directors of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce urges the Council of the City of Portsmouth ~o continue its efforts to obtain s complete interchange a5 Effingham Street and Interstate 264 ..... and ...... Further resolved, that this Board will use all of its energies, along with the ~fforrs of the United States Navy, in helping the City of Portsmouth obtazn such interchange. (Signed: Richard F.
