Octobe~ 9th. 19R9 <br /> <br />62-245 - The following communication from the Chamber of Commerce was resd: <br /> <br /> "At a joint meeting on October 1, 1962, between the Board of Directors and the Highway <br />and Roads Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and City Officials, the proposed interchange a~ Effingham Street <br />and Inters~a~e Highway 264 was thoroughly discussed. <br /> It was the opinion'of those presen~ tha~ the interchange, as proposed by the State, will <br />be inadequane, will crea~e a serious ~raffic problem, and will seriously interfere with the proper development <br />of Portsmouth. <br /> The Commanders of the Naval Shipyard, the Naval Hospital and Commander Fifth Naval <br />District, are concerned that the State proposed interchange will erea~e serious ~raffic problems and have <br />requested the Chief of Naval operations ~o intercede in suppor~ of s complete interchange as proposed by the <br />City. <br /> In view of the foregoing, the following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br />Resolved ths~ the Board of Directors of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce urges the <br />Council of the City of Portsmouth ~o continue its efforts to obtain s complete interchange a5 Effingham Street <br />and Interstate 264 ..... and ...... <br /> Further resolved, that this Board will use all of its energies, along with the ~fforrs <br />of the United States Navy, in helping the City of Portsmouth obtazn such interchange.
