Motion of Mr. Dillon that the letter be received and referred To a conference of the <br />Council was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 62-254 - Motion of Mr. Atkinson that the City Attorney prepare a suitable resolution as <br />a token of respect for the high office which has just been awarded our Civil Defense Co-ordinator, J H. Simpson, <br />was adopted, without dissenting voEe. <br /> <br />62-255 - On motion of Mr. Dillon, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, the President of the United States has determined that this nation muse defend <br />itself and its allies against installation by the Soviet governmen5 of offensive weapons in Cuba; and <br /> W}IEREAS., the necessity for making decisions in such mac,ers is a heavy burden upon the <br />President, and his course of conduct will affect world peace and the very continuance of the United States of <br />America as a free nation. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />this Council and the citizens of this City pledge their suppor~ 5o the President of the United States in his <br />effort To maintain warld peace if possible, and in his determination to defend our country and its citizens in <br />the event of conflict." <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br />President <br /> <br /> <br />
