Having been annexed by the City ~f Portsmouth some fi~tee~ (15) years ago, we feel
that we are long overdue for these improvements, since these improvements have already been completed in several
sections Of the~Sity much younger than ours.
2. We have been repeatedly promised these improvements by the City Officials and under-
stand that this w~rk was included in the t962 budget b~t was cut due to 'lack of f~nds' - however, erbar areas were
completed.

3. We, as taxpayers, feel that these improvements at this time would g'ive added zes~ and
morale to:this area, would encourage'property improvemen~ and better citizenship, thereby helping to bring about
a better and more progressive Portsmouth.
With these things in mind'we implore you, as City Fathers, ~o give this petition your
early and just considei~atio~.(Signed: James' B.~ Garrenton, Jr.', and numerous others.)

The ~ity Manager:presented a report giving information relative to plans for s~reet
improvements in the River Park area.

Motion of Mr. tastes to refer the petition, particularly the reques~ for ~rd surfacing of
Surry Street, and the verbal request regarding speeding on Surry Street, to the City Manager was adopted, without
dissenting rose.

On motion adjourned

Approved - ,

President

City Clerk
