63-113 - "Bids were opened on April 29 1963. for the sale of City owned property listed <br />as Lots 4 snd 5, Harry Alexander Plat, Court Street. On May 4, 1963, bids were opened for the sale of City owned <br />property at Godwin and South Streets. <br /> For the Court Street property, one bid was received in the amount of $100.00 <br />from Mrs Dorothy N. Adams. Two bids were received for the property at South and Godwin Streets as follows: <br /> <br />Portsmouth Body and Motor Service <br />M. Elizabeth'Bain <br /> <br />$1~550.00 <br /> 627.00 <br /> <br /> I recommend that the Court/Street property, bo.sold for the above price with <br />a 50 foot essemenD to be retained by the City to be reduced to 20 feet previded a culvert is constructed as <br />apProved by the City Engineer. .- <br /> I do not recommend the sale of the 'property at South and Godwin Street as I <br />do not feel the price bid is sufficient." <br /> <br />In this connection, the following letter from Mr. Livesay, Attorney, was read: <br /> <br /> . . "As attorney for Portsmouth Body & Motor Service, [ request permission ro address the <br />Council at its meeting of May 14, 1963, concerning the bid of my client to purchase city property at the corner <br />of Godwin S~reet and South Street." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr; Leafy, rules~were suspended to hear Mr. Livesay/.who spoke for the <br />Portsmouth Body and Motor Service. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager to sell the <br />parcel.of land on Court Street was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> Motion or. Mr. Leary to re-advertise for sale the property at South and Godwin Streets <br />for use as an auto repsi~ shop, and that report on bids be made at the next Couneil meeting, was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED~BUSINESS <br /> <br />up and read: <br /> <br />63-98 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading ar last meeting, was taken <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE ZONING:ORDINANCE OF tiKE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />1961, BY AMENDING SUBSECTION 24 OF SECTION 4-3 THEREOF SO AS TO.PROVIDE <br />FOR ISSUANCE OF USE PERMITS FOR OPERATION OF AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE STATIONS <br />WITEIN CERTAIN ZONING DISTRICTS." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Dillon, the ordinance was-adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes:. Board u~ge all City CounciIs concerned to make an early settlemenz <br /> of the water issue. <br /> We do, therefore, take this opportunity to express the hope that this vital problem can <br /> reach a Solution quickly and thus lesse~ the economic impac~ to.~al~interested partie~. <br /> <br /> A similar letter is being sent to the City Councils~of-Norfolk,:Virginis, Beach% and <br />Chesapeake." <br /> <br /> <br />
