Motion of Mr. Knight that the following ordinance be approved on first reading was adopted, without dissenting vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $44.500.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURCHASING A'N AERIAL LADDER FIRE TRUCK" On motion of Mr. Barnes, the City ManNger was authorized to award the conr~ract to the lowest bidder, American LaFrance C~poration. 63-217 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This changes the name of Sherwood Drive to Johnson Avenue. These two streets hav~ been physically co~nected and now the street should be given one name. There are 19 residents on Johnson Avenue and 6 on Sherwood Drive. Attached hereto is a copy of a. petition presented fro~ the residents on Sherwood drive requesting that their street Rame not be changed. About a year ago all the residents on Johnson Avenue were required to change their street numbers." On motion of Mr. Dillon, the following ordinance was approved on first reading: "AN ORDINANCE TO CHANGE THE NAME OF SHERWOOD DRIVE TO JOHNSdNAVENUE" 63-218 - "I submit the attached ordinances and recommend that they be placed on first reading. These ordinances a~thorize the city to proceed with condemnation proceedings to acquire land for the widening of Route 337 (Portsmouth'Boulevard),- ' ~ .... At the present time, there remain eight parcels for which' the right-of-way has no~ been acquired. Five of these parcels are owned principally by National Oil Companies. One parcet cannot .be 'settled because of the incapacity of one of the parties in interest who is a patient at Eastern'State ~ospital; however, a verbal agreement on the amount:of the compensation has been reached with the principal'owner~of the property. The remaining rights-ofwway.have~not been acquired because we are unable zo rgach an agreement with the owners. It is necessary ~hat we proceed with these condemnations as we have to advise the State Highsay Department by September 25th that all rights-of-way will be available in order that we can get this project under construction next month."
