Noone spoke in regard to the petition. On motion of Mr. Leafy, the following ordinance was approved on first reading: "ZONING AMENDMENT ORDINANCE :Z 63-19" The following reports from the City Manager were read: 63-211 - "I'recomme~d that the next reguiar city council meeting scheduled for s~ptember 24, 1963, be changed ~o September 26, 1963. This-is n~cessary as the V~rginia Municipal League will be zn session zn'Roanoke ~n September 24th." Motion of Mr. Dillon to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager was adopted, without dissenting vote. 63-g12 - "This is to advise the city council that Mr. W. E. Kube's term on ~he Supplemental Retire- men~ Board will~ expire as'hr Septemb~ 3~, 1~63.~ M~. Kube~'i~ one of the two employee repr~seht~tives on the Supple~enta~t~re~e~t Bbar~. ' .... ~'~ '~ ~ ~his is tO further notify you that Mr. Fenton Vaughan's term on the Recreation Board has expired. These appomntments are for a four year term. Motion' of ~r% Atkinson to ~dncur in th& recommendation of the City Man~ger, W~s adopted, dissenting vote. ~ithout 63-214 - "Wit~ regard to the traffic conditions on Rodman ~verme~ referred ~o m~ at the last council meeting, I wish to repor~ as follows: For the-entire week beginning S~ptember 1st, a log was kept as ~o the number of times police equipment patrolled Rbdma'n*A~nue. I have been advised that this street is now properly marked with regard to speed limits signs and 'No Through Trucks' szgns in accordance with accepted standards. While we do not deny that there is speeding on Rodman Avenue, it is believed that it is of no grea~er nor lesser degree than on many other streets in the city/ Please be assured that this s~reet will be give,call the attention possible along with the other streets in the city." ~otion of Mr. B~rnes'to receive the repor~ as information and that the surveillance be continued, was adopted, without dissenting vote. 63-215-'!I submit the attached agreement between the Norfolk and Western Railroad and the City of Portsmouth and recommend that the proper city officials be authorized to sign. This is with reference ~o ~ke new water line being constructed gozng under the Nerfolk and Western tracks on Constance ~oad in th~ City of Snffolk." Motion Of Mr. Barnes that the proper city-officials be authorized to sign the agreement was adopted, without dissenting vo~e. 63-216 -'~ids were opened on September 4, 1963, for the purchase of-a 100 foo:t aeria~ ladder for the fire department. This aerial ladder is to be used at the new Fire Station on Victory Boulevard, as recom- mended by the National Board of Fire Underwriters.
