March lO, 1964 64-46 - "The Procedure for the purchase of city automobile Tags was referred to me by the City Council for a repor{I The~cemplaint concerned the requirement-of having to present~ the state motor vehicle registration card when purchasing city automobile tags. This is enforced b~, the~ commissioner o~revenue office ~n acce~denc~.with Section 18~315 of the City Code. It is aisc importasz to the' city-in'obtaining ~he proper information for the ~assessment of personal pro~er~y taxes on automobiles. The complaint further stated, "It-prohibited the pmrchase of ~ags by mail which was a convenience." The City has never permitted the purchase of automobile ~ags by mail but does provide stations in Cradock and Mid~-City Shopping Center for~ the month of January when the-tags-are due~ The State Motor Vehicle Code requires the registration card to be with the vehicle only when it is being operated."
