Project a~ <br />essential to the success of Northside Project No. I, and the best location for displaced families and others <br />who desire to live in the downtown area. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chairman_ advise the City Council of the action taken by this <br />Committee, with the ~equest that it direct the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority ~o proceed with <br />action that will result in the earliest possible development of the Weaver Project." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight ~o refer to. a conference between the Housing Authority, Planning Commission, <br />and Co~cil was adopted, without d'issenting vote. <br /> <br /> 64-80 '~ The folI~wing communication from the Young Men's Christian Association was read: <br /> <br /> "The Chestnut Street Branch YMCA will soon be forbed to relocate its facility, due to its <br />location relative to Interstate Highway 264. <br /> The ~roint~ Committee on Relocation of the Port.smouth YMCA has' been in the process of investigating <br />Possible sites and buildings that may be feasible for the continuation of the YMCA program, which has served <br />and continues ~o do so--s definite need in our city. <br /> We feel that the present Armory building would lend itself to our program needs With some <br />renovation, hut would not be as great in cost as a new building. <br /> We are aware that the proposed new Armory w~ould not be availa~ble for use within the next <br />eighteen months. Our request is' for your favorable support and consideration of the Armory 'as a permanent site <br />for the Branch YMCA upon f~nal relocation of tke Armory to its new site. <br /> Your consideration df our reques~ will be anxiously awaited." <br /> <br />Motion of']~r.
