<br />AND PROVIDING FOR THE FURNISHING OF COPIES ~HEREOF"

<br /> 64-192 - The following letter from the Portsmouth Recreation Advisory Board, presented at Council
<br />meeting on July 28th, 1964, was taken up and read:

<br />"At the regu~r meeting of 'City-Council on Ju~y 9th one of the items on the agenda was s
<br />recommendation from the Planning Commission concerning the future use of the o-ld Highland-Biltmore School #2.site.
<br /> This item was referred to a meeting o£ this Board an~'represents.tives of the Biltmore Baptist
<br />Church with the hope that a solution could be re.ached that would be satisfactory to all parties concerned, namely
<br />the Biltmore Bsptist Church, the Portsmouth Babe Ruth League~ and the Mi-Landers Little Leagme.
<br /> ~fter'a meeting of.those e~gan±zatio~s and a restudy of:the-facitities involved~ the ~ortsmouth
<br />Recreation Advisory Board wishes zo submit the following recommendations:
<br /> (1) that the two Little League Fields presently located on the old Highland-Biltmore School #1
<br />site by relocated on the #'2 site.
<br /> (2). that-the, propossd ~Babe,Ruth League~Field~ be located at~.the former{site o~ Highland-Biltmore
<br />School #1.
<br /> (3) that a portion of the #2-,site ~ocated on ihe west end which measures~approximately 150' x 339'
<br />be offered for sale with the Biltmore Baptist Church as a possible bidder.
<br /> (4) ~thnt a portion of,~the revenue deri~ed from the sale of the proper~y mentioned in para (3) be
<br />applied towards expenses incurred in reloceting the Little League Fields.
<br /> As a mazter of explanation, it is felt that this arrangement would be satisfactory zo (s) the
<br />Biltmore Baptist Church inasmuch as a lighted facility would not .be~tocabed adjacen5 to-its property a~d provzsion
<br />is made for future expansion; (b) the-Hi-Landers Little League which has expressed a sincere interest in cooper-
<br />ating · n this matter providing that suitable facilities are furnished such as now currently exist and (c) the~
<br />Portsmouth Babe Ruth Lesgue which has expressed satisfaction with ~ither of the locations.
<br />
<br /> I 5rus~ that the above information will be of assistance to the Council in rendering a decision on
<br />
<br /> ~ Mo~ion of Mr. Barnes to approve the recommendation of the Board and that.the property ~described
<br />in paragraph (3)) be authorized for sale, was adopted, without dissenting vote.

<br /> 64-220 - Motion ~f Mr. Knight 5o go into the election of a memeber to the Southeastern Virginia
<br />Regional Plsnning Commission was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Knight nominated Charles D. Lane, Jr., 5o fill the vacancy.
<br />
<br />On motion of Mr Barnes, nominations were closed.
