October 13, 1964 <br /> <br />The City Manager presented the following report: <br /> <br /> "An improvement of the drainage system at the southerly intersection of-York and Kent Drives <br />can be realized by the following (Italicized numbers correspond to those shown on attached map) <br /> 1. Dig a ditdh from Academy Park canal no pipe under Victory Boulevard. <br /> 2. Lower 18" pipe under Victory Boulevard and increase size no 30". <br /> 3. Lower existing 18" east along north side of'Victory Boulevard Do Kent Drive and replace with <br /> 24". <br /> 4. Lower existing 15" on east aide of Kent Drive and replace with 18" no existing catch basin. <br /> 5. Lower mhd replace existing 12" across Kent Drive with 15" no existing catch basin. <br /> 6. Extend new 15" storm sewer with catch basins to southern intersection of York and Kent Drives. <br /> These basina~will intercept storm water before it reaches low spot in Kent Drive resulting in <br /> flooding. <br /> New catch basins and~ manholes will have to be constructed, ih conjunction with the above as none <br />of the existing snructures and/or storm sewers have sufficient depth er cover. ESTIMATED COST: $13,000.00" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Barnes referred To a conference of Council. <br /> <br /> 64-2?2 - Th~ following communication fromthe Dembcrsey Commi~ttee was read and on motion of Mr. <br />Eaatea, received with the appreciation of the Council: <br /> <br /> "We want to thank you for your kind support and recent endorsement of the Democracy Committee's <br />efforts. <br /> Because of your participation and the cooperation of others like you, our Voter-registration <br />Drive was a success and many Portsmouth citizens who may not o'therwise have done so, were encouraged To register. <br /> Democracy is best when the most number of people participane therein--y~ur help in registering <br />voters has certainly~helped strengthen our sy~'Dem-~of American Democracy. <br /> Thank you for your assistance." <br /> <br /> 64-273 - Motion of Mr. Leary that the question of drainage on Smithfield Road be referred ~o the <br />conference of the Council, on drainage matters, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 64-274 - Motion of Mr. Barnes no add to the agenda the election of a successor to Burrell R. <br />Johnson on the Recreation Commission/was adopted. ' ' ' <br /> <br />Mr, Johnson nominated Robert L. Rmlley, <br />On motion ~e nominations were closed. <br /> <br />~11 Grayson Street. <br /> <br /> Vote beinE taken, Mr.'Holley was Rnanimously elected ~o the Recreation Commission no fill the <br />unexpired term of Burrell R.
