November lO, 1964 Mr~. Cohen requested that item 64-33 be eliminated from the advertisement. Motion of Mr. Barnes that the City Clerk be authorized to advertise the rezoning petitions, eliminating 64-33 - petition of Mike Ventura Estate, as requested by Mr. Cohen, was adopted without dissenting vote. 64-297 - The following resolution was presented by Mr. Barnes, and on motion of Mr. Dillon was unanimously adopted: WHEREAS, by ordinance adopted December 9~ 1961, the Council of the City of Portsmouth petitioned the Circuit Court of Norfolk County, Virginia~ for the annexation of certain territories therein described; and WHEREAS, the membership of this Council has chenged in the intervening period of time; and WHEREAS, the reasons and conditions as stated in said ordinance making the requested annexation necessary and expedient have not changed, but in fact are now more compelling than before. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that all things heretofore done by the City Manager and Special Counsel for the City of Portsmouth pursuant to the said annexation ordinance of December 9, 196~, are hereby ratified, approved~mnd confirmed, and the City Manager and said Special Counsel are directed to employ their best efforts to carry the pending proceedings to an early and successful conclusion. Knight was unanimously adopted: WHEREAS, Walter S. Clement is leaving the Tidewater area upon the occasion of his promotion to Vice-President of the Lakes Region~of the Norfolk and~Western Railway~Company; and WHEREAS, the said Walter S. Clement not only has discharged his duties as Resident Vice-President of the Norfolk and Western Railway-Company so as to-bring honor and ~redit to his'employeF; but also has been most active in the industrial development of the Tidewater area. NOW: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the s~ncere appreciation for the services rendered by the said Walter S. Clement and the best wishes for his success in his new undertaking be expressed and conveyed to the said Walter S~ Clement on behalf of the citizens of Portsmouth. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the Norfolk and Western Railwzy Company ~nd a copy be presented to the said Walter S Clement."
