Cohen requested that item 64-33 be eliminated from the advertisement. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes that the City Clerk be authorized to advertise the rezoning petitions, <br />eliminating 64-33 - petition of Mike Ventura Estate, as requested by Mr. Cohen, was adopted without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 64-297 - The following resolution was presented by Mr. Barnes, and on motion of Mr. Dillon was <br />unanimously adopted: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by ordinance adopted December 9~ 1961, the Council of the City of Portsmouth petitioned <br />the Circuit Court of Norfolk County, Virginia~ for the annexation of certain territories therein described; and <br /> WHEREAS, the membership of this Council has chenged in the intervening period of time; and <br /> WHEREAS, the reasons and conditions as stated in said ordinance making the requested annexation <br />necessary and expedient have not changed, but in fact are now more compelling than before. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that all <br />things heretofore done by the City Manager and Special Counsel for the City of Portsmouth pursuant to the said <br />annexation ordinance of December 9, 196~, are hereby ratified, approved~mnd confirmed, and the City Manager <br />and said Special Counsel are directed to employ their best efforts to carry the pending proceedings to an early <br />and successful conclusion. <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virgin~ , a~ a r~gular meeting held November ,,! <br /> 10, 1964, at which meeting all members of Council'were present and Voting aye oa the adoption of said resolution. <br /> 64-295 ~_The followi'n~ resolu~tlo~ was pres.ented by Mr.% Barnes 'and on moLion oT ~r. Knight was <br /> unanimously adopted: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Walter S. Clement is leaving the Tidewater area upon the occasion of his promotion to <br /> Vice-President of the Lakes Region~of the Norfolk and~Western Railway~Company; and <br /> WHEREAS, the said Walter S. Clement not only has discharged his duties as Resident Vice-President <br /> of the Norfolk and Western Railway-Company so as to-bring honor and ~redit to his'employeF; but also has been <br /> most active in the industrial development of the Tidewater area. <br /> NOW: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the s~ncere <br /> appreciation for the services rendered by the said Walter S. Clement and the best wishes for his success in his <br /> new undertaking be expressed and conveyed to the said Walter S~ Clement on behalf of the citizens of Portsmouth. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the <br /> Norfolk and Western Railwzy Company ~nd a copy be presented to the said Walter S Clement." <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br /> President <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
