Brown <br /> <br />Jefferson B. Brown spoke for the application, requesting rezoning to C-2 for four of the seven lots <br /> <br />involved. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Dillon to concur in the recommendation of the Planning Commission, to rezone C-l, and <br />to place the following ordinance on first reading, was adopted, without dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"ZONING ~HNDS~NT ORDINANCE Z-64-56" <br /> <br />64-299 - The Colonel Crawford Common Plan was presented by J. P. Stephenson, of the Chamber of <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Knight, the following resolution was unanimoualy adopted: <br /> <br /> '~HEREAS, Commerce has come forward with a comprehensive and.detailed plan <br /> the <br /> Portsmouth <br /> Chamber <br /> of <br />to put into effect the concept of the Colonel Crawford Common as a phase of Operation Amidships~ and <br /> WHEREAS, said plan will be a great boost to the revitalization and redevelopment of the contral core <br />of the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of Portsmouth would benefit from the revitalization of the central core of <br />the City. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it hereby <br />endorses in principle the plan for the development of the Colonel Crawford Common as presented by the Portsmouth <br />Chamber of Commerce. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City hereby Stands ready, willing and able to cooperate with the <br />Portsmouth Chamber of Commuerce, real estate people, the Downtown Merchants and all others interested in carrying <br />into effect the proposed plan." <br /> <br /> The following reports from the City Manager were read: <br /> 64-300 - "Bids were opened on November 18, 1964, for the sale of Portsmouth Water Department property! <br />located on Saratoga Street in Suffolk. This is the property vacated by the business office of the Water Department <br />as they have moved into the new Suffolk Municipal Building. <br /> <br /> <br />
