This property is the subject of rezoning <br />application Z 65-4 which is a petition to rezone this property from residential R-75 to R-60~A.. <br /> It is requested that this letter be recorded in the minutes of this Council." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Knight, the ordinande was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Smith, Barnes, Dillon, Eastes, Johnson, Knight, Leafy. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> <br />65 - 29 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up and rea~: <br /> <br />"ZONING AMENDMENT ORDINANCE Z 64-55" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Leary, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Barnes, Dillon, Eastes, Johnson, Knight, Leafy. <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br />65-31 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $73,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT <br />FUND FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURCHASING VOTINC MACHINES." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Eastes, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Smith, Barnes, Dillon, EasteS~ Johnson, Knight, Leafy. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />65148 - The following resolution was read and on motion of Mr. Leafy, unanimously adopted: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad Company has filed with the <br />State Corporation Commission a petition for authority to discontinue the operation of the Pullman car operated <br />between Norfolk and New York via N&W, ACL, RF8P and Pa. R and <br /> WHEREAS, this Pullman car is not only a convenience to citizens of the City of Norfolk <br />who travel to and from New York, and points in between, but is a necessity to certain citizens who must travel <br />by train and rest while doing so; and <br /> WHEREAS, this Pullman car is also a convenience and a necessity to persons traveling <br />to Norfolk in furtherance of the business and cultural interests of the City and the personal interests of citizens <br />of the City; and <br /> I~EREAS, the discontinuance of this Pullman car would d~prive the citizens of the City <br />and others of a means of transnortation which the Council thinks they are entitled to have; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Norfolk: <br /> Section 1: That the City of Norfolk is opposed to the petition of the Richmond, <br /> Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad Company for authority to discontinue the <br /> operation of the Pullman car operated between Norfolk and New York via N~W, ACL, <br /> RFgP and Pa. R, and that the State Corporation Commission is urged to deny the same. <br /> <br /> Section 2: That the City Attorney is directed to transmit certified copies of th~s' <br /> resolution to the State Corporation Commission, the Richmond, Fredericksburg and <br /> Potomac Railroad Company, the Norfolk and Western Railway Company, the Atlantic <br /> Coast Line Railroad Company and the Pennsylvania Railroad. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council February 16, 1965." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Leafy that the City Attorney be requested to represent the City in this matter was <br />adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br />President <br /> <br /> <br />
