17; April 27, 1965 65-117 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on first reading. This amends Section 19-.56 of the City Code pertaining to unnecessary or unusual noise between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. It excludes from this anti-noiseordinance any ship dismantling and scrap operation conducted in an area zoned for such an operation. This ordinance is necessary fo allow Commonwealth Metals Limited to conduct their ship dismantling operation at Pimnerm Point." dissenting vote: On motion of Mr. Dillon, the following ordinance was approved on first reading without "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 19-36 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, TO EXEMPT SHIP DISMANTLING AND SCRAPPING OPERATION FROM TH~ PROVISIONS OF THE ANTI-NOISE ORDINANCE" 65-118 - "Bids were received today for the construction of two pumping stations for the Portsmouth Water Department. One station is to be constructed at the five-mile post pumping station in Portsmouth, and the other is to be constructed at the Suffolk plant. The following bids w~re received: Strickland Brothers Portsmouth, Virginia $168,600 Luke Construction Company Norfolk, Virginia $171,270 Van de Riot Construction Co., Inc. Norfolk, Virginia $190,246 Our consulting engineers have examined the bids and recommend that the contract be awarded Strickland Brotkers.
