June 22nd, 1965 <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Hastes, referred to a conference of Council. <br /> <br />65-164 - ~e following communication from the School Board was Mead: <br /> <br /> 'I am hereby notifying you of the expiration of the terms of office of the <br />following members of the School Board, their terms ex?iring July 1, 1965: <br /> <br />First District - Dr. M. N. Johnson <br />Second District- ~.~. J. H. Griffin <br />Third District - ~]r. John W. Shuler" <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Barnes to refer to a conference of Council, was adopted. <br /> <br />65-165 -~The following communication from the City Clerk was read: <br /> <br /> "This is to advise you that the terms of office of the following members <br />of the Recreation Advisory Board will expire June 50th, 1965: <br /> <br />Carroll A. Mason <br />John Ivy <br />J. H. Griffin" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. games, referred to a conference of Council. <br /> <br />65-166 - The following communication from the City Attorney was read: <br /> <br /> "On Thursday, June 17, 1965, the case of George R. Walker V. Jack P. Barnes <br />et als, was heard by the Court of Hustings. After a full ~earing on the matter the court concluded that <br />the ordinance amending the City Code by enacting a new section regulating the use of tnpe recorders at City <br />Council sessions had not bean published as required by City Charter. For this reason the court declared <br />the ordinance invalid. Steps are being taken to remedy this situation. <br /> In order to eliminate apparent confusion in the records of the Council, <br />I ~etieve that the Council should repeal the ordinance which has been declared invalid by the court. <br />Accordingly, I submit~the attached ordinance and racom]hand its adoption." <br /> <br />without dissenting vote: <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Barnes, the following ordinance was approved,~on first reading, <br /> <br /> "~N ORDINANCE TO REPEAL SECTION 2-2~.~-0F THE CODE OF THE <br /> CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, CONCERNING ~{E USE OF <br /> TAPE RECORDERS AT MEETINGS OF THH COUNCIL" <br /> <br /> 65-167 - Motion of Mr. Eastes ~o refer to a conference of the Council Zoning Peti- <br />tion Z 62=15, which was approved on September 28th, 1962, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - , <br /> Pre ~ident. <br /> <br /> <br />
