October 26, 1965 <br /> <br />were present: <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Council, held on October 26, 1965, there <br /> <br /> R. Irvine Smith, Jack P. Barnes, John L. Dillon, George D, Eastes, Burrell R. <br /> Johnson, L. L. Knight, W. T. Leafy, A. P. Johnson, Jr., City Manager, and <br /> M. A. Korb, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. Dillon. <br /> <br /> The Mayor greeted student from High Schools who were attending the meeting. <br /> Minutes of regular meeting of October 12, 1965, were read and approved. <br /> 65-275 - The following public hearing on zoning changes was held: <br /> <br /> Zoning Petition Z 65-25 - Rufus A. ~owell. <br /> <br /> No one spoke in regard to the petition. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Knight, the following ordinance was approved on first <br />reading, without dissenting vote: <br /> <br /> "ZONING AMENDM~N~ ORDINANCE Z 65-25" <br /> <br /> Zoning Petition Z 65-24 - City Planning Commission. <br /> No one spoke in regard to the petition. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson, the following ordinance was approved on first <br />reading, without dissenting vote: <br /> <br /> "ZONING AMENDMENT ORDINANCE Z 65-24" <br /> <br /> Zoning Petition Z 65-26 - Attorney Donald C. Kilgore. <br /> <br /> No one spoke in regard to the petition. <br /> <br /> Motion of ~{r. Leafy to concur in the recommendation of the Planning Commission <br />to disapprove this application, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> The following communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 65-274 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed <br />on first reading. This appropriates $5,000 for the purchase of property at 1850 Queen Street. <br /> <br /> This property is being acquired to expand the Buck Childs Field <br />for use by Harry Hunt Junior High School. This is the third parcel of property acquired at this site." <br /> <br /> On motion of 5~. Barnes, the following ordinance was approved on first <br />reading, without dissenting vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $5,000.00 FROM TH~ <br /> GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE PURCHASE <br /> OF PROPERTY AT 1850 QUEEN STREET" <br /> <br /> 65-275 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed <br />on first reading. This appropriates $15,000 for the renovation of the first floor o{ the Courthouse, <br />for use by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. <br /> <br /> A large portion of the materials used for th~s renovation will be <br />salvaged when the new Court is completed. <br /> <br /> The largest portion of this expense is for electrical fixturess <br />and air conditioning." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Eastes, the following ordinance was approved on first <br />reading, without dissenting vote: <br /> <br /> "~q ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $15,000.00.~FROM <br /> THE G~NERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR ~{E <br /> RENOVATION OF THE COURTHOUSE TO PROVIDE <br /> FACILIT~P~q FOR THE JUVENILE AND DOMESTIC RE- <br /> L~ATI~S'[COURT'' <br /> <br /> 65-276 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed <br />on first reading. This appropriates $5,000 to establish a parking lot on the old Brigg$ School site. <br />It is being constructed on a temporary basis until such time as the ~isposition is decided upon. <br /> <br /> The large item in establishing this lot will be the asphalt paving <br />whimh will cost approximatply $4,000. This is necessary in order that the lot can be properly marked off. <br />Creosoted cross rios will be used in lieu of concrete curbing, <br /> <br /> We have sufficient parking meters, and they will be regulated for <br />$.05 per hour, with a two-hour limit." <br /> <br /> <br />
