January 25, 1966 <br /> <br />66-32 - The following letter from the Orange Realty Company was read: <br /> <br /> "Letter enclosed is evidence of the disrupted nublic transportation <br />as approved by the City Council of Portsmouth, Virginia. <br /> This approval of schedule changes and deleting bus service affects <br />not only those who have depended on public transportation but business concerns as the contents of this <br />letter is evidence. <br /> How many more notices of the same character that our company will <br />receive is undetermined." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Knight to refer to the City Manager was adopted, <br /> <br />without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-33 - The following letter from Ralnh W. Machin, President of the <br />Campers Association of Virginia was read: <br /> <br /> "We, the members of Campers Association of Tidewater Virginia, <br />representing 1SS families of the Tidewater Area with a common interest of promoting camping and <br />sponsoring projects for the improvement of camping as a family hobby are interested in the establishment <br />of additional local camping areas and recreational facilities. <br /> We have been advised that the Portsmouth City Council is considering <br />the establishment of a camping and recreational area in Nansemond County. We wish to express our desire <br />that the City Council give their approval for the establishment of this area ~nd others for the purpose <br />of family camping. <br /> We urge the City of Portsmouth to establish a camping and recreational <br />area which would bring much tourist business to your city and also provide your local campers with the same <br />facility which they now have to travel to other communiiies and states to enjoy. <br /> We feel this is in line with your efforts to promote and attract the <br />tourist business." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Dillon to a~knowledge the letter and send a copy <br />to the Recreation Commission, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-34 - Motion of Mr. Barnes that the City Manager investigate and report <br />on the feasibility of extending the length of probation period for policemen and firemen from four months <br />to six or seven months, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66~$5 - Motion of Mr. Knight to convey to the Bond Commission the <br />appreciation of the Council for their valuable assistance to the City Manager and Finance Department <br />of the City, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-56 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that the Council go on record as supporting <br />House Bill #25, now before the General Assembly, which Permits the length of trucks using State roads to <br />be increased from forty to forty-five feet, and that the Clerk so inform the State Ports Authority and <br />our Legislators, was adopted, without dissenting. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
